Sadly, and obviously, we do need legislation.
People aren't being reasonable and causing accidents and deaths.

we do not need the legislation, we just need the current laws enforced. start citing people for inattentive driving when caught texting, and give them a nice heavy fine and see texting go down.

after all, if you are fined $250 on 1st offense, $500 on 2nd offense, $1000 on 3rd offense and even higher. dont you think people would get tired of paying heavy fines and just start not texting while driving?

why not enforce the laws already on the books and stop making feelgood laws that both republicans and democrats just love.

after all, if it were not for feelgood laws, the federal goverment would be alot smaller.
It is not a bill, or law, it is a recommendation for the states to start enforcing laws relating to inattentive driving.

The federal government has lost its mind.
I guess the states better start planning their own aircraft certification programs and airport facility specs, eh?

Why don't people whine about the 'nanny state' when that state decides it needs to go half way around the world to fight for other countries? Why is nannying those other countries just fine & dandy?

does not really matter, if the feds are getting involved, it will only be a matter of time before congress makes it another feelgood law.

If a police officer sees you driving erratically they can pull you over and give you a ticket.

They that now and and check for sobriety.

No new laws are needed.

Besides driving on a state or county or city road is no business of the fed.

Have a law, have a punishment, most people will comply, those who don't might have to pony up some $$ even if they don't get into an accident, and the rest will drive recklessly no matter what. That's the best you can ever hope for.
Let's not forget all the radio calls the police make. Should they pull over before talking on the radio?

what an utterly stupid idea.

and cell phone frequencies has noting to do with laws that limit cell phone use in cars.

each state has every right to regulate/limit cell phone use while driving. but this is NOT on any level a federal issue.

By the way somewhere around 5500 people are killed as a result of distracted driving every year.

consider that changing the radio station, putting on makeup and slapping bad children in the back seat are all forms of distracted driving, it seems a bit overkill to suggest that CELLPHONES are the thing we need to ban.

Also consider that according to the news last night somewhere around 14 million of us are on the phone while driving at any particular time, that number 5500 is very small.

THIS IS A STATE ISSUE.
