The lunacy of the Christian fundies knows no bounds. Timberlake Christian School told the grandparents of an 8-year old girl she would not be welcome back because she has short hair, prefers wearing pants, likes baseball cards, and her BB gun. According to the school, she could only return only if "her dress and behavior ... follow suit with her God-ordained identity." No transgender or gay issues here, she knows she is a girl and what that means. When discussing sexuality with a doctor, the grandmother was told she shouldn't worry about that until puberty, to which a school employee told her to find a "Christian doctor".
Religion is the basis of most, though certainly not all, hatred and bigotry in the world. This bigots should have to pay their taxes like everyone else and not be able to claim to be a non-profit charity especially since your average church gives less than 1% of total income to actual charity. They're a fraud and we shouldn't be having taxpayers subsidize fraudsters. They should be able to justify their continued existence without trying to steal money from taxpayers.

I read somewhere he did drag on weekends. Wouldn't it be cool if Jesus impersonated Cleopatra (who died just 3 decades before Jesus was born) ... parts of Judea, Samaria and Phoenicia annexed into Cleopatra's empire ... ??? I mean Jesus with peacock blue eye-shadow and pleated golden skirts and vulture headdress ... that would be fabulous!!!

Actually, it was her Christian grandparents who brought this up in public. And probably most of the comments I read on the news sites I checked were from Christians.

Whether the grandparents should have gone public is a question I'm not interested in.

My guess is that the school was motivated to send the letter because some parents of other students got wound up, and the school now finds itself in the middle. But that is just a guess.

As I've said before, I think interpreting the dress and activity preferences of an 8-yo as a sexual expression is just silly, and I personally am glad Sunnie has been transferred to a public school where people are less sex-obsessed.

Which is why it is so ridiculous that the powers-that-be who lord over Christianity "stay as they are" - egregiously working against the spiritual maturing of their faith instead of embracing it, fostering it, lauding it. Just like a child is to learn, change and grow into an adult, religious faith itself is also supposed to learn, change and grow throughout time, fostering an ever-more compassionate civilization. Jesus' own ministry both promoted the value of ongoing revelation and was an example of the egregious "stay as you are" reactionaryism that Christian leaders have exhibited throughout the centuries, including those who lead this school. Without learning, changing and growing through time, religious faith is as a child that never grows up.

Men and women have distinct sexual identities. That men are men and women are women is not abuse or discrimination. It is as it is.

Every person has a distinct sexual identity. The claim that the genders, taken as wholes, have a DMZ between them with regard to anything related to this child's manner is foolish. For all those aspects for which she's indefensibly derided, there are men and women to both sides of her, men and women who are as deserving of worth and dignity as you.

"Male and female made He them." Jesus would not do drag. It's a mockery of God's design for mankind.

I saw an interview with the girl and her Grandma. Grandma said the school did have a uninform, and that the shirts were similar for both girls and boys. Girls could wear EITHER a skirt OR pants. Now the school is saying the issue wasn't her hair? BS. Then exactly what is the issue if she wore a uniform? Maybe they didn't like how she dressed outside of school?

The Grandma said they were contacted by another Christian school who said they would be very happy to have the girl as their student, AND that they had no problem with her short hair. They haven't made a decision yet for next year between public school or the other Christian school.
