When rocks are outlawed, only outlaws will have rocks!
I move that the town be renamed "Bedrock", and all students have to serve a mandatory two year enlistment with Mr. Slate at the Slate Rock, and Gravel Company.
When it was brought up about arming teachers(not the best idea, but..) people were scoffing at it saying what teacher would want to go up against a shooter. If people think a teacher, who would have a gun, would be too afraid to stand up against a shooter, what chances does someone have when all they have is a rock.
Maybe disband school buildings, have an online version of a school.
Teachers have always gone up against a shooter ever since these shootings began. With nothing at all except their bodies. Even a rock is better than nothing at all.
The object is not to kill the shooter. It is always to stop the shooter from shooting kids.
A rock could knock a rifle out of the shooter's hands, and a rock could break the clip or other part on an AR-15, incapacitating the weapon.
The police are on their way. A shooter doesn't even need to be injured to stop shooting. The cops will get him anyway. None of the shooters have ever escaped.
Of course there are many things better than rocks in a school. A hammer is probably better than a rock, or a shovel, an ice-chipper, or any number of things. The problem is they are all stored in locked closets, usually in hard to reach places.
A pile of bricks would probably be better than rocks. Sports equipment could work. Lumber. There's a lot of stuff that would work.
Something simple needs to be right on hand, should not pose as much a threat to the kid's lives as the shooter's, and throwing rocks is a lot better than trying to throw chairs, school books and cell phones. Buckets of rocks are better for barricading a door as well. Buckets of rocks can stop bullets. Back packs and prayers sure won't.

But what if the assaillant got a grenade or a bomb?
Btw, I guess it won't be long some folks will abuse of their rocks rights like in the way of this Monty Python skit and some activists will call for rocks control.
Gotta admit this line from the Door "Five To One" just came to mind.
Quote:
The old get old
And the young get stronger
May take a week
And it may take longer
They got the guns
But we got the numbers
Gonna win, yeah
We're takin' over
Come on!
I am willing to bet, when the bullets start flying, throwing rocks will not happen!!!
To paraphrase a saying, "Throw first, duck later."
Many assume kids will panic once the firing starts. Maybe, but who knows? The kids might surprise you. If you were armed with but a rock, would you throw it or duck under the desk with it?

Who knows? I do. Kids are not going to be "armed" with anything sitting at their desks.
And they'll panic as soon as the armed guy comes into the room, way before any shooting starts.
This is not oh-so wealthy, Absolutely Politically Correct, and security-obsessed Newtown, Littleton or Parkland; this is rural, upstate Pennsylvania, a small school district where everyone knows their neighbors, where the alienated loner is likely to stand out, and where the average teenage boy has been exposed to sport hunting, and has passed a gun-safety course in order to get a license.
Not much chance of Suburban Susie Soccermom's nightmares materializing here.
I think a lot of students are going to get rocks thrown at them!
I carried my single shot .22 rifle to school for four years and never shot at any kid or teacher. It was a privilege to shoot on our HS rifle team and I would never do anything to lose that privilege. So kids can now consider it a privilege to hold a rock in this one PA HS.
By the way; I also carried a pocket knife which I could have thrown and did throw at recess practicing mumblety-peg with other kids that carried knives - we never had a stabbing. It was legal to carry knives for everybody back then as long as we did not exceed a four inch blade - it was originally a six inch blade cutoff. We did not have the drug problems we have today; which could have made the difference? We also never, ever, heard of a HS shooting!

Of course some kids would panic; but not all kids would panic. The better they are trained; the less that will panic. If your school would get an outside rock range maybe somebody would convert a golf ball picker into a rock picker and the classes could practice all day long!
