The simple truth is that Jackson is being sponsored by the lunie left and answering that question might have 'offended' them. So yes, she did answer wisely, except that she actually screwed it up by invoking a biologist instead of a legal linguist.

In both cases, the candidates were on the list of people that were qualified for the position. So yes when examining list of candidates all with similar experience it was decided in both cases that other criteria would be beneficial for the supreme Court representation. But somehow when a Democrat does it it's bad but when a Republican does it it's not so bad.
