there are so many shootings in the US now I am losing track of which shooting is where and how many were killed in which...

It's also the reason I did not go to any 4th of July celebrations, safer to just stay home now.

You just proved yourself wrong. You said:

It is ILLEGAL to have a gun in HP.
And then you gave me a link describing prohibitions on specific types of firearms. Thus, it is not illegal to have a gun in HP. It is only specific types of guns which are prohibited.

Mental illness has been on the rise for ages, and it keeps getting ignored. Blaming weapons is easy. It's easier to go after weapons that to look at things like mental illness, how people are raised, basically problems that aren't as tangible.

I'm not letting this shooting stop me from going anywhere I please. If I stay home tonight, it won't be from fear. I want to see some fireworks tonight.

I grew up hearing about school shootings. One reason I'm not surprised to hear about shootings today.

No way this guy isn't mentally ill. This is a very sick person.

You and I will just have to respectfully disagree on this.
You think the mentally ill develops strategies like this? You think they create master plans? He KNEW what he was doing.

Also. I notice that whenever a white dude engages in this senseless crap, they're "mentally ill." "They're having a bad day." Excuses. But when a black dude does it, is it because they're mentally ill? No; "It's typical of them." "That's what they do". "It's their culture".

Problem I see with many here - just because you are registered with a party does not mean you believe in all that party believes in and why there are so many independents. Some here have called me a Republican because I have very conservative views but I've been a registered Dem for 47 yrs. I just don't agree with many of the policies proposed by Dems today.

Crazy is crazy - be you Republican, Democrat or Fluffy.

So did the theatre shooter in Colorado. Being mentally ill does not mean they were incapacitated....far from it.

Yes, republicans. I'd hate for a mass murder to get in the way of your hot dogs and fireworks. Thoughts and prayers, though

The GOP is an absolute dumpster fire.

In the immediate aftermath of a deadly mass shooting while the shooter is at large, ILGOP nominee for Governor Darren Bailey goes on Facebook to offer prayers for families & police, voices frustrations about a canceled parade, and then says, “Let’s move on and celebrate freedom.”

That may be what she means, but she may be referring to the percentage of the residents being Jewish.

One of the parade-goers, a Jewish guy, who came on CNN via webcam, alluded to this.

There were dozens of “good guys with guns” at this event and the guy escaped after shooting more than two dozen people, killing at least 6.

How many more good guys with guns are needed?

Same thing with the Dayton shooting. The shooter was killed within 30 seconds of shooting by police and still managed to kill 10 people and shoot another dozen. That’s basically impossible with a knife. Sure a bomb can cause that much damage and a lot more but it requires months or even years of planning, constructing the bomb, and you need the technical knowledge to develop such a device. Car attacks can also kill plenty of people but you need a large crowd in order to cause damage, you can’t just ram into an elementary school or postal office and expect to cause a large amount of damage. Knife attacks rarely kill more than 4 or 5 people and are usually pretty easy to take down. Arson attacks are also deadly but the extant of damage is almost impossible to estimate.

That’s why guns are different, they are specifically made so that any ******* with some money can buy a high powered semi-automatic rifle or just steal/borrow one from a family member like we’ve seen in so many cases.

It’s also not like the guns on the streets are illegally manufactured in some underground factory either, 99.9% of them are built in legal factories and bought by legal vendors. Most “illegal” guns are bought from vendors who have connection to a legal market or stolen from absent minded gun owners or gun stores themselves.

I’m just tired of the disingenuous suggestions that guns aren’t the issue, when if you look at these events and the amount of people harmed in a short time period. Someone with a knife would be hard pressed to harm as many people and the types of people doing this probably don’t have the patience to build a bomb.
