The thought I was trying to make was that so many guys put these pre concieved labels on women as to why they won't date them without ever allowing the woman to say yes or no. In the example that I gave many of the guys were so into "this girl won't date me because she is too hot for me." What I am getting at is that many times guys and girls answer for the person that they are interested in. So much better to ask the question and let the person you are interested give you a yes or no.

Oh SOON, I knew what you meant and it's a good point. I was being silly, but not completely because we're also discussing rejection and how much it hurts and it saves your ego from getting too hurt if you remember that most people over 21 are probably in some stage of a relationship--they're either soon to be in one, they're in one, or they're getting out of one and still hung up on the ex/not ready to date. Also, approximately 5% of the population or slightly more is gay and that's not always obvious. I figure there's probably a lower chance than that, that I'm too beautiful to be asked out, but I like that one the best.
Oh, and add to the above that many people are going thru other "stuff." Finishing up a tough semester in college or med school. Close relative just passed away and mind is totally on family. Depression/anxiety. I have had very good looking men try to talk to me and it made me clam up--I couldn't believe that someone that good looking would want to talk to me. The list goes on. I mean, take a chance and ask her out even if you don't think she's in your league and then if the sting of rejection is too hard to deal with, tell yourself one of the above. It probably has nothing to do with whether you're a dork or not, unless she's a Barbie doll type and do you really want one of those?
