If you want to know God's Truth and not some denomination's truth, then you can know for yourself.
You have to search for God and His Truth.
If you get Jesus' teachings in the New Testament, and do what he says to do, then he will come to make his home in your heart and he will be your Teacher.
There are some things Jesus will give you immediate understanding about and some things you will have to study, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you, and more.

Or the pastor at the corner church who leads his congregation to serve God and others.
But is it "okay" to preach and attempt to lead? After all, there's a sucker born every minute.
See, here's the way it can work:
I could say right now -- 'Last night I had a vision. That christianity is wrong. That it should be outlawed. Islam is the answer! Now follow me and be saved'.
And that scenario does happen all the time, just fill in one's favorite belief.
