Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Well, You Didn't Think THIS Would Happen In Wichita Falls, But It Is

It's happening. It's happening right near the downtown area of Wichita Falls, Texas. In a city where a number of buildings still stand idly by, wasting away, something fresh will rise up from the ground.

You see, Wichita Falls is building a new convention center and hotel, and O'Reilly Hospitality will have the property. It's in the Delta by Marriott series, and when completed, will be a boon to the area. I drove by this morning as an end to my weekend road trip,...

There's A Part Of Me That Still Misses Analog TV

Posted 01-06-2022 at 08:55 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Do you still miss those rabbit ears? While I appreciate the convenience and the technology we have now, I still miss the old analog television from yesteryear. That's when channel numbers really were channel numbers.

Nowadays, stations would rather rely on call letters since cable and satellite operators tend to put certain channels in places where their previous identity might get lost. Suddenly (for example), Channel 8 would not be Channel 8 anymore. Guess...

I-69 Update: RGV Just Getting Bigger

Posted 01-04-2022 at 07:22 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Deep South Texas keeps on growing. Road work is continuing at a brisk pace, especially in the McAllen area.

Interstate 69C is getting an expanded connection with an ever-expanding Interstate 2. It's badly needed in the Rio Grande Valley region. Ground was broken a few months ago on the new direct-connectors. At least one new lane is being added to I-2 in each direction. There's no question that the Valley's busiest roadway is about to experience a little less congestion....

Remembering Betty White, TV Icon Who Almost Had Her Milestone

Posted 01-02-2022 at 07:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And we were all pulling for her to reach 100 years of age.

She didn't quite make it, folks.

So with that, here I am spending the opening days of 2022 talking with you about one of the last things that happened in 2021. Betty White, TV icon and ever-present actress who had one of the longest careers in recent memory, passed away just eighteen days short of turning 100 years old. Before venturing into television in the 1950s, Betty had done some...

A Little Rearranging Going On In Granbury's (Texas) Town Square

Posted 01-02-2022 at 06:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

While y'all are still pondering what to do with your New Year's resolutions , Ol' Case decided to trudge over to Granbury, Texas, one day after his big bowl of obligatory New Year's black-eyed peas.

Today, I had to scratch a German food itch and took my Shark to Granbury's Town Square and to a place called Ketzler's. Now, there's also some shuffling, too. Ketzler's has relocated one block over to the spot where Linda's Southern Kitchen apparently used to occupy....
