I am not worried about hunters. That is the least of my concern. Thanks for your concern though.

I'm having trouble falling asleep tonight, so I skimmed through most of this thread.

My honest opinion:

You (OP) will be lonely in Alaska. I have met some people who are democrats, but even them would look at you as crazy if you said you're a Socialist. I also noticed you are a very outspoken person in your beliefs, but almost to the point of being rude, which will also push the majority of locals away. I think you could find a social group in Anchorage, but even though Anchorage isn't a large city population wise, it still has high traffic, industrial areas, crime etc things you mentioned you want to get away from. The smaller the city is in Alaska, the more Conservative it becomes (generally speaking). If you were able to "hide" your strong opinions more, I think you'd be fine in Homer, Talkeetna, or Juneau. I believe you will continue having the same confrontations you are having in this thread if you moved here, except in real life. I'd do yourself and the majority of Alaskans a favor and look in a different state. I think you'd be happiest in Aspen, Colorado (if you can afford it) or even Boulder, Colorado (if it's not too big and if you can afford it).

I wouldn't say I am rude, just look at how people have chosen to respond to me, when I never questioned their beliefs, and was just attacked. I asked a few simple questions. Sure, I can give a strong retort back, but I certainly didn't approach this thread with rudeness, in any way.

Most Americans do not know the difference between Socialism, or Democratic Socialism, or Communism...they just see red and assume people like me are Commies and start pointing guns. I don't care if "progressives" decide to label themselves or not, that is not my concern. I will admit, I do look at conservatives as if they are crazy, but that is neither here nor there. Anyway, the favors I do for people won't be because I DON'T live there.

This "poor me, they're making fun of me because I'm different" stuff won't fly here. Lots of people here are different. That's not why you're catching flak.

Annie, you are not as different as you think you are.

There is plenty of room in Alaska for people of varying beliefs, etc. But I see potential problems for you, if, for instance every little conflict you might have being attributed to the intolerance of others because you are "different"....and you've done some of that in this thread.

You could go to any of the places mentioned in this discussion and be open about your political and personal ideologies and be fine unless you played the "different" card at the first sign of personal conflict with people.

Maybe you're just used to living in places where these things matter much more....I think that because people aren't so crammed together here there's less of that.

The differences between all of us is what keeps things lively and interesting. It would be a very dull world if we didn't have divergent points of view.

I am not sitting here whining OR crying. Please, reread the thread. I am defending myself against peoples attacks, mostly Metlakatla, who just had to MAKE IT CLEAR I MIGHT BE A TROLL, there is a difference. Then her buddies pitch it the anti-vegetarian posts, that have already been deleted. If you actually read my words carefully, you will see that I am only here seeking information, and sharing what I want in a place. No QQ'ing here...

Oh please, nobody here was intolerant until you came along in this thread. seriously, and you started accusing me of being here to troll, when I came here with an open heart, and open mind, asking questions. Yeah, look who is calling ME intolerant. Have I been intolerant towards anyones lifestyles in this thread at all? No, if anything they keep saying YUMM MEAT! (most have been deleted now, because that is considered trolling)Oh and Yay, hunting, and throwing it in my face because I am vegetarian. Please link me proof I have been intolerant towards anyone elses lifestyle in this thread.

From your last time around.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/alask...ot-them-7.html

Most of your stuff in that thread was of course deleted.

But there are those of us who were around at that time.

Good luck to you, Annie. Personally I think this thread is moot because I doubt you'll move here.
