No Katzpur....we want you to stay. I also do not believe Mormonism is a cult and find it has many common denominators to my beliefs....I want to learn more but have been too busy with work to be on here much this week.
Ilene, thank you very, very much for saying that. It means a lot to me to know that's how you feel. I believe that you are part of a very small minority, though, even among those who have been participating on this thread. The silence of the others has spoken volumes.
When I first came to City-Data, it was to participate on the Utah forum. Maybe it's time I headed back there and left the Christianity forum altogether.
Go where the holy spirit leads you...I pray this forum is one of them...

Do I have any seconders?

You guys have made my day. Seriously, when I went to bed last night, I had pretty much decided to leave the forum. You have convinced me to stay and I appreciate that. I have tried to make a point of never pushing my beliefs on anybody and of always trying to give an honest answer when I'm asked a question, so it really does hurt to be told I'm part of a cult. When that was implied (whether intentionally or not), and there was this sudden dead silence on a thread that had previously been very active, I apparently mistook that silence for condemnation.

I guess you're not done with me after all.
Katzpur,, I know it hurts to be told that "you are not a christian" "you are part of a cult" etc, we have all had various labels attached to us, and our beliefs twisted and misrepresented, we need to try and look past the labels and misrepresentations and and see that the Unity is "in Christ" by the Holy Spirit, and not of physical christianity with all of its denominations which are the divisions --baptist, calvinist, methodist, mormon, catholic, sda, etc, etc.

Therefore...let us not look for the SIN in our neighbor...but rather look for the good...for it is rare...

Glad to hear it
Your "no debate" thread has been a real gift to me. And we really can learn from each other.
Do what I do. No matter how bad the Christianity forum feels, go over to the atheist forum, place a couple posts, then come back here.

Yay!! Now you've made my day!! It started out great with another sweet dm from a non-believer (how great is that!!) and now this.....what a wonderful day this has been! No, we are not done with you and we never will be Katzpur.....you're special in our eyes and in God's.
If you feel attacked by some on this forum and you feel that it is too stressful feeling the need to defend your beliefs, I would be sad to see you go.
Defending my beliefs basically just goes with the territory, meerkat. I know that no matter what I do, there will be some who will make it their life's work to try to demean my faith. It doesn't take me long to identify them. I will generally attempt find some common ground and build some bridges, but when my efforts are repeatedly met with contempt and hostility, I just cross them off my list of people I want to associate with. After that, I pretty much ignore them. As long as there are a few good people around me, I can deal with the jerks. I just thought there for a day or so that there weren't any.

You must realise that those christians feel that Mormonism adds revelations (and to tell you the truth - I agree with that - the Joseph Smiths revelations have been made into a denomination) that the bible is the absolute truth and there is no more...
Well, you're right. Joseph Smith's revelations have been made into a denomination. That was pretty much the point of the revelations. Not to get off on the subject of Mormonism, I would just like to address your comment since it is undoubtedly the way most people view my religion, and it deserves a response.
(1) Assume, just for the sake of argument, that the Mormons are right about one thing that is absolutely fundamental to our faith, i.e. that an apostasy took place when Christianity was just out of its infancy, and that because the Apostles were all martyred and none called to take their places, the doctrines taught by Jesus Christ did not survive in their pure form, that certain truths were lost, either in full or in part, or were perhaps just misinterpreted. If that did happen (I'm not arguing that it did -- just presenting a hypothesis), the only way that they could be restored would be by Jesus Christ himself, working through a human being He chose to receive His revealed word. That's what we believe happened. We don't believe that Joseph Smith added anything that had not been originally taught but lost along the way.
(2) We can find no evidence in the Bible that God, who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, would suddenly stop talking to His children, leaving them with nothing but a book with which to understand Him and their relationship to Him. Don't get me wrong. Mormons love the Bible, and use it constantly. We just don't believe it contains every word God has ever communicated to humanity. And we don't believe it even claims that "there is no more."

...they feel that they need to tell the truth
And that's exactly as they should feel. We have each been given a charge to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe that's what we on this particular thread have been trying to do. No one should feel that he has to keep quiet about what he believes.

I never knew what the smilie was for! Man, that's gonna come in real handy!
Thanks again for your comments. I appreciate your willingness to discuss our differences.
Hey, if this papist can take the abuse, so can you.
