Cool, I wanted to post this here, glad I can now...

Listening to the scanner feed for El Paso County Fire/EMS and reports are there's a thunderstorm cooking up to the north and concern for erratic winds to start coming out of it, firefighters are on alert for that as it could of course fan the fire and make it run in unpredictible directions.

Also just reported was a hotspot west of Cedar Heights moving in the direction of Cedar Heights, which is being fought from the air at the moment.

There is a lot of chatter as staffing and movements are coordinated, but you can definitely get some interesting news if you listen. Definitely better than the official news reports.

And yet I can still post? Thanks mods - I'll go the "report bad post" in the future rather than attempting the ineffective public shaming route. This thread should be kept active to the extent possible, so thanks for getting it back up. Seems like everybody in Colorado Springs knows somebody with a home in the "impact zone." So tempting to build right up close to the natural zone. My own house, on the southwest side of town, is mere blocks from open space. I'm seeing countless examples of people pulling together in ways I've never seen before. Awful event, tremendous response to it.

We had a family reunion near Boulder ending last Sunday morning. The first three days we didnt see signs of or smell smoke from the fires but on the last day, Sunday morning, we could smell smoke as we were preparing to leave Boulder. I assumed the wind had just changed and we impacted by the fire near Fort Collins. Now it appears it was the much closer new fire near Boulder. We were located at Chautauqua on the SW side of Boulder I beleive, how close is that to where the Boulder fire area?

These closures will be strictly enforced by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Douglas County Rangers.

Obama is coming to visit on Friday, and according to this he's asking our local leaders to tell him what else we could use to fight this thing. For anyone *ahem* with anything to say on that topic (not here) maybe you should suggest to the Governor or Mayor what sort of resources to put on that wishlist for the Prez. For um...whatever good it will do.

President Obama to Visit Colorado Springs Friday

Today, President Obama called Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper as well as Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach to receive an update on damaging fires that are impacting a number of communities across the state, including the devastating Waldo Canyon fire that is affecting families, homes and businesses in Colorado Springs, CO.
The President expressed his concern about the extent of damage to homes in the Colorado Springs area, and informed both the Governor and the Mayor that he plans to travel to the area Friday to view the damage and thank the responders bravely battling the fire.
The President reiterated his administration’s focus, through the US Forest Service as well as the Department of Interior and FEMA, on continuing to bring all resources to bear to assist local responders in Colorado and a number of Western States currently being impacted by fires. Seventeen air tankers have cycled in and out of firefighting action over the last 48 hours across the western states.
More than 8,400 personnel, 578 fire engines and 79 helicopters are operating on wildfires around the U.S., with more than half of active federal wildfire-fighting resources are currently staged in Colorado.
Federal support is also being provided to local officials battling fires in Alaska, Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
The President made clear that he has directed his team to remain focused on the fires. He asked the Governor and the Mayor to identify any additional resources that could be provided and informed both that his thoughts and prayers are with responders and families impacted by these and other fires burning across the western United States.
