No I’m not kidding you. Everyone knows that Mexico is one of the most corrupt nations in the world. Of course you wouldn’t want to adopt Mexico’s immigration laws because that would mean sending millions of people back to Mexico. Then Mexico would have to deal with, educating, feeding, clothing, and providing free medical care to the millions of people that they have ignored.

The saying on the Statue is speaking to people who want to come into the US LEGALY. It doesn’t say anything about sneaking in. This country has always welcomed people from other countries, but there are limits on the amount that can be assimilated. Assimilation means that these people want to come to this country to become Americans. All these illegals want to do is work, not to become American. This is the problem.

Why don’t YOU work to change Mexico into a thriving economy that pays these workers enough so that they don’t need to sneak into another country so they can provide for their family.

Due to the Mexican invasion CA is having to close hospitals, over tax the population to pay for social services, ignore infrastructure upgrades because the money is being diverted to educate the illegals children.

It's not ridiculous when it's the truth. I've lived around different parts of Los Angeles, and the only place where people regularly spit at a middle-aged caucasian woman (me) is here, where the demographic is its new majority of foreign nationals and illegals.

I live in a neighborhood that changed its demographic practically overnight when the Northridge earthquake prompted most of its professionals who couldn't swing enormous house repairs to leave, and the government funded a great many programs for poorer people to inhabit those houses. The original poorer people left and rented everything out to illegals or foreign nationals with zero respect for American laws. If someone driving in Los Angeles honks a horn as they plow through a red light or stop sign, one may be sure that they are one of the previous categories, as that is behaviour from Mexico when it's continual, not occasional. I'm not, by the by, discussing driving ability, merely respect for, and learning of American laws. Which doesn't happen here, because the mindset is break laws to get in here, and it's okay to skirt every American law when you think you can. This is the mindset of criminality, not the average American citizen, no matter where they're from originally.

no the scripture on the statue is for everyone. the process of one hundred years ago was faster and simpler. i have already talked about the bias against non european immigrants. chinese exclusion, deportation of legal US citizens of mexican descent, etc. etc. people from the south are just not given the same oportunities. and then you all talk about assimilation. assimilation to what? you are probably talking about nor-eastern traditions because as far as im concerned the culture of the southwest is pretty much the way it has been for long before any treaty of guadalupe. spanish or mexican culture is all over the southwest. its in the missions. its in the long standing barrios. its in the names. its in the way of life. maybe it should have been the transplants who invaded during the the gold rush or the dust bowl to acculturate. the Cal constitution was written in spanish as well as english people. this is the way of the land. euro people, whites, anglos, caucasoids, whatever, didnt really like the feel of the west. it had its own feel. now you people continue to try to change that. guess what. wont happen. and it sucks that you get spit on, but like mr gringo said. maybe it is your attitude. i have non latino neihgbors and they are never treated like this. all the non latino people i know love coming to my neighborhood. jews. balcks. whites. i had a gay white couple house sit for 3 weeks while i was away. A GAY WHITE COUPLE. that is the complete opposite of the community demographic. i really dont know what people you live next to or what you do, but my people have never had problems in this neighbor hood. a truly sad existence for you. my community is a blue collar immigrant community of hard workers. live side by side. interact daily. dont bother no one, you wont be bothered. simple as that.

Assimilation to this--- The process whereby a minority group gradually adopts the customs and attitudes of the prevailing culture.

Iansmom, let's clarify that a tad for those who don't get it, to adopting the customs, language and attitudes of the prevailing country, its laws and its peoples' prevalent values. To wit, just because northern Michigan has a large Polish community doesn't mandate that all signs and documents of the country be changed to the Polish language. No. It means you remain proud of your Polish heritage while you go about your life as an American.

What, pray tell, would be my "attitude" calmly walking down a street as a normal pedestrian when people conversing in a foreign language suddenly spy me, glare, and then spit at me the moment I'm walking by? Could it be. . . my physical appearance as a middle-aged caucasian woman?

I'm old enough to have seen the exact same contempt, i.e., spitting at strangers, shown by idiotic white Southerners in the 1950's towards African-Americans. It was wrong then, and it remains wrong now: towards anyone.

The one thing that the early migrants had in common was their desire to embrace America and have America embrace them. They wanted more than anything to be known as Americans first not a hyphenated American. They wanted to learn the language. They wanted their children to have the opportunities that they didn’t have in the old country, so they made sure that the next generation had an education so they could have a better life in their new country.
Now you have people that have been here for decades that speak either no English or very little. This would have never been possible with previous migrants. Those who didn’t want to assimilate would have been abandoned by their peers and either returned home or be destined to a future of poverty.
This is nothing new just as the illegals have had their underground support group, many on the other side have put up with this behavior long enough. The sleeping giant has awakened. You can see it with organizations like the “minute men” and others that are telling congress that enough is enough. The gravy train is going to be derailed.

Hey there Fastfilm you are preaching to the choir!! That's exactly the problem. Take for instance the illegal that just had that set of quads in California, which the family now totals 10 kids. The husband has been in the country illegally for 28, count 'em 28 years and he speaks no English, wife been in country for 22 years illegally and she speaks no english. But who paid for the hospital bills for all those kids...you guessed it the people of the great socialist state of california that's who, us.

Then you have those two border patrol agent that are facing 20 years in jail because they were doing their job....Come to find out today the border patrol agent that "ratted them out" is a mexican born border agent AND lifelong friend of the drug smugler, hell he even took the drug smugglers mom to her doctors appointments.....don't even get me started on that!!!!

Then we have stupid in the White House who is fighting "terrorism".....ahhh someone needs to tell stupid how do you fight terrorism when you have absolutely NO IDEA who is coming over our borders....

I think that fence they want to build, with Mexico's "approval" of course would be better suited in Washington DC. If it was built there we could keep all the lunitics in aslymn, at least then we would know where they all are.

I have to stop now because that vein in my head is starting to pulse. And you can tell the ACLU to STICK IT

In the restaurant where I work there used to be 2 illegal albanians working there, however the INS caught up with them and they ran. Yet, millions of illegal "hispanics" are allowed to run around on our streets protesting our laws. And they're allowed to get away with it? HMM... now call me crazy, but I see a bias AGAINST european immigrants.

What it doesn't say is please feel free to break our laws and disrespect our nation.

Pray tell, what is YOUR nation's policy regarding your southern border? Is illegal immigration into Mexico a criminal offense? (Hint: Yes.)

Fix your problems with your inept, incompetent, corrupt government before you start pointing fingers at us.

Sparky- I am from California, but have been living in Oaxaca for 6 years now. The southern border policy seems about the same- if they catch you, they deport you. If not, well, the immigrants that come through Mexico are usually just passing through, so.....
