To be absolutly clear, the poster stated..."New York's reputation for openness and diversity is why it is often referred to as the greatest city on earth." His assesment of the city in no way "rationalizes or justifies" any aspect of illegal immigration...Right? Of course it doesnt.
Uh, try to follow the conversation and how it evolved.
"NYC is a sanctuary city. I hate that"
Response below:
"I actually love that. New York's reputation for openness and diversity is why it is often referred to as the greatest city on earth".

yes it does because this is an illegal immigration forum.
Logic fail, all Americans can't speak English. Not speaking English does not mean a "good chance" someone is "illegal". Ready for some examples?:
- Babies
- Mutes
- Elderly naturalized citizens
- Some Puerto Rician U.S. citizens
- Some elderly Native America citizens

There are language waivers for the elderly that are naturalizing. A U.S. citizen can return from being raised abroad as well. I'm personally aware of Native Americans living on the large reservations in the Southwest that are only fluent in their native dialect.
Babies are U.S. citizens without knowing English...
If you are alleging it is a requirement, source the reference...
As previously stated, only a very small percentage of U.S. citizens do not speak English.
As for babies and the deaf-mute, let’s not reduce this to the ridiculous. If they can’t speak ANY language, of course they can’t speak English.
As a former resident apartment manager in Van Nuys, CA, which has a very large illegal immigrant population, I can tell you one of the reasons WHY we are ending up with more and more illegals as neighbors, even in the nicer areas...its down to FEAR. Property Owners/Landlords are AFRAID to try and evict these families once they have managed to lie their way into a lease.
Some examples from the building I managed...
A single black man rented an apartment in my building, using false information. He was already a tenant when I became employed at the building. It soon became apparent that he was not living in the apartment, but was using it as a place of prostitution, with no less than four women using it to do business with their clients. One of these women drove a Jaguar, a pretty good tip off in that neighborhood that something hinky was going on in the way of employment. I reported it to the management company and within two weeks the tenant was evicted and the apartment locks were changed. The police were also called in by me to help.
I rented an apartment to a young white couple, recently married. About three months into their lease I noticed that they had another couple had joined them. They were able to show that this couple were just visiting and had recently applied for, and been approved, for an apartment at another building. They requested that their guests beallowed to stay another 3 weeks, when they could move into their own place. The property management refused the request and immediately started eviction proceedings, because they had acted against the lease agreement. No more than 3 people were allowed to occupy a one-bedroomed apartment, and any guests staying longer than 10 days required prior permission, with an additional fee to be paid.
I rented a one-bedroomed apartment to a young Mexican couplewith one infant. They both used an ID issued by the Mexican consulate. Within a month of them moving in there were SIX more people living illegally in the apartment with them. When the property management company was notified they suddenly lost the ability to act according to law and begin eviction proceedings. There was a lot of anger and aggravation over this because they feared that they would be sued for discrimination if they moved to evict, even though they had legal grounds due to the lease agreement being broken by the tenants. This issue was still unresolved seven months later, when I left the company. This family were allowed to break the law, ignore the lease agreement, cause constant upset to other tenants with their noise, littering and anti-social behaviors, and pretty much live as they pleased in someone else's property.
You can't control your neighbors. You may just be more open minded about illegal immigrants. At least they don't spray paint your house. At least they don't rob you, instead you can still feel safe in the house. It's not as bad as you think!

Here are a few things to counter your argument.
1. They take up apartment space that belongs to an American.
2.Leech off our tax dollars for more government handouts.
3. Waste millions each year in translation cost.
4. Steal SS#'s
5. Take American jobs
6. Not screen for diseases
7. Commit crime
8. Anchor babies
9. Press 1 For English
