Yes, both Seattle and SoCal have a much higher COL that could result in poverty if I make the wrong moves. There are plenty of highly educated and once successful people on the streets. Something to take seriously.

I'm sure all the people who moved to the South didn't want to but were forced to either move or become homeless due to higher rents and higher property taxes. There is a thread about Santa Monica that addresses the same issue. The middle class people were forced to move out and the wealthier people who moved in built huge properties that raised the taxes in the area. Only the wealthy can afford to live there now from what these posters are saying on that thread.

That's so weird, I didn't know high COL only affected black people. I must have missed that in my Political Correctness 101 course.

I'm not saying it does. But AAs in this country have a higher poverty level percentage than other groups (not including first generation immigrants). As an AA, this is something that concerns me and I try to plan my life accordingly so that I won't be a part of this statistic.

Not all of Southern California, or California in general is expensive to live in. This is another misconception.

I'm sure there are inexpensive areas. The question is, are they safe and crime-free with amenities? If so, can you point me in the direction of these neighborhoods? I've been looking at homes online for a while in both the Bay Area and LA and I can't find anything in my price range (which would ideally be $200k - $300k in a safe area not far from a central business district in either area e.g. Downtown SF or DTLA).

Yeah...no chance.

Considering many things, it is a foregone conclusion reharding leaving the state of Georgia. I started on coty-data back in 2007. I wanted to leave Georgia. I felt like I could identify more with the Western USA. Considering the rising cost of living, it is a foregone conclusion. I will pretty much be in the Atlanta area for a while. At least I have a job. Atlanta is becoming more expensive, so moving into Atlanta proper would be a pinch.

Considering your budget and what you are looking for, I don't see how you find it anywhere near LA. But there are plenty of good places in the South.

You can find a home in Los Angeles County in that price range, but not in Los Angeles City proper and the surrounding areas.
