New stats are up: one thing that's clear is that homicides are undercounted (no surprise). Previous week 83rd was showing 6 murders, now it went back to 5.

One very surprising thing is Brooklyn South is now ahead of Brooklyn North in murder count. Brooklyn North has always been traditionally ahead of Brooklyn South in that category. It makes sense though, there's been a lot happening southern part of the borough.

I find it very hard to believe that everywhere in the city saw a sharp decline in crime in 2009. I'm personally witnessing a lot more things happening in 2009 than in 2008.

The NYPD stats are very flawed in my opinion.

I was told by an officer two years ago that the murder numbers are down because the medical technology in the hospitals has gotten better. Therefore, not as many people are dying as a result of gunshot and stab wounds. But had this been in the 1980s and 1990s, most of the people with near fatal wounds would really be dead.

I think that is a strong possibility.

Doesn't stop New Orleans and is 90+ murder rate.

Jersey has been crazy this past month. 3 shootings in Newark (one not too far from where I live since I'm near the border of Newark/EO) and more police involved shootings in JC, it's crazy out here.

And back on topic, it looks like NYC had an eventful night for weekday.

I was referring to the medical technology here in NYC. We have some of the best hospitals in the nation.

I don't know anything about New Orleans crime. Other than the fact that it is high.
