Logical to stay home over one issue?

Whether it's logical or not, it's not going to happen.

The President has been consistent on this. For a long time he's said his views are evolving. And they have. The DADT policy played a part. And now this. It's a gutsy move in some ways. But anyone who works, like the President, with a wide variety of people and who gets to know them and observes many of these same sex relationships and even some who've been married, it's tough not to support the equal right to marriage. Straight marriages are, for the most part, failed. Let's see what happens with the gay men and lesbians. The Romney family traditionally supported polygamy and I don't see why he/it wouldn't support same sex marriages.

Baptists have strong social conservative convictions. If they perceive Obama as not being pro traditional family, well...

You are looking at this as all or nothing. It's a numbers game. Obama's number crunchers made a bad call thinking that the black baptist vote is automatic.

Nothing would garner more votes than pandering to the religious zealots. It has, and works like a chance virtually everywhere. Ask Goldwater. That is a big reason why he failed.

You think those voters were looking at marriage views as a litmus test in 2008? Did they vote for pro-family candidates in previous elections? Or withhold their votes from candidates open to gay rights in the past?

Then why is gay marriage consistently voted down when it comes up for a vote? Even in California...

I've never actually heard Romney say that he is anti-gay, although he may possibly have done. You should know, however, that just because he is a practicing Mormon, he may not agree with all of his Church's policies or actually contributed anything towards Prop 8. I am, for instance, a practicing Mormon who has no problem with same-sex marriage; I may be in the minority, but I am definitely not unique.

"Black Baptist" is not a monolith.

Take the 2008 election, knock off 10-20% of the Black Baptist vote and you still have an Obama landslide.

And the white Baptist vote wasn't Obama's to lose.
