Nope..it was merit based and he earned it having maintained a 3.75 GPA while playing football. Not many football players can attest to that high of a GPA.
^^^at a very good private school.
This isn't some kid with a joke 3.75 at some school where 30% of the kids graduate.
The kid worked hard, got good grades, obviously was a good athlete, all from working hard and he should get what he earned not what daddy can pay for. This whole thing is ridiculous.
I hear you.... but it's not ridiculous. There are so many kids out there like him trying to get scholarships to afford college. These kids are AP students and great athletes just trying to get a chance for a better future. There are so many denied though because of the competition.

You cannot take "competition" out of it..it's because of competition that the best of the best are picked. Those that are denied just aren't as good as others.
did he earn it fairly? then no, he got it fair and square.
What if Diddy wasn't going to pay for his college? Who says that parents are required to pay for their children's college (no matter how rich they are)
My good friend came from a wealthy family. His parents did not pay a single cent of his college tuition. He went to Columbia on his own merit, applied for scholarships and worked a full time job WHILE maintaining a 3.8 grade average in his semesters.
It's merit based - kid got a 3.75gpa and was a football star, that's how it goes.
If liberals feel that kids shouldn't benefit from their parent's wealth, then they should also feel that kids shouldn't be punished for their parent's wealth.
How much of the kid's merit was earned and how much was bought? When you grow up with tutors and SAT prep classes, is your merit earned or bought?

So? Daddy doesn't have to pay. Once someone is 18 they are an adult and forging your own way is a GOOD thing remember.
I'm not about to be drawn into a stupid world of looking at who has wealthy relitives and giving merit based awards only to poor kids. We have things in place for that sort of thing already.

Don't be jelly. All the tutors and prep courses money can buy can't make some people intelligent. Witness this thread.

Poor kids can apply for government grants. Folks need to stop crying about others good fortunes and make some for themselves.
Good for the kid. Those sound like good grades, and he is a good athlete. A merit based scholarship is not based on financial need. Non issue. Tax payers need to learn, the rich always win, and sometimes they deserve it.
