Most people do have both liberal and conservative views - things are almost NEVER either all black or all white... there are ALWAYS shades of grey - even if some refuse to admit it...

Problem is - if you have liberal views - some on the right will label you a 'liberal' and/or 'socialist' - because these are the hate labels that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Karl Rove, et al, have taught them to use...

This labelling used to work before at marginalizing people - but it surely does not work any longer...

Exactly! Look at history and you'll see it happens roughly once a generation. Even if the GOP ceases to exist, there will be a conservative coalition in the country in the future. And one day, forty years from now the Dems will run out of ideas and chant "yes we can" when the younger generation doesn't even know what it means.

Think Reagan..."Win one for the Gipper"
Think the New Deal Coalition..."Happy Days are Here Again"

Who remembers that these days besides history teachers like me?

They're about things like The French Revolution or Chemistry reactions. That's because most teachers care about educating children to think for themselves, not indoctrinating them toward a point of view. And assume that teachers spend their days manipulating and brainwashing children is the most insulting thing you can say to a teacher.

Perhaps I should ask why conservatives and GOP'ers do nothing but bitc...er...complain about teachers and public ed. But that's another thread.
Actually, yes. I have seen it. Why do you act so confused?

I'm not confused. I'm just stating what I've seen, (or not seen). Most teachers are Democrats. I'll hand you that. But I've never met one who was a far left socialist.

Also, it depends on what you mean by Socialist. To me, Socialist is very far left, a step below communism, (which I'm not) but I've been called socialist because I agree with universal, public education--it's a no brainer to me. I also agree with Social Security, and Medicare for the elderly. Again, helping people who, over time have more trouble helping themselves is a no-brainer to me. Anyway, we're getting off topic, so I'll end it here.

Alaska has no state sales or income tax, pardner.

Yeah, her daughter messed up. Kids do that even in the best of homes. It would have been so easy and politically advantageous for her family if she had had an abortion. Just think. She wouldn't have had to put up with self-serving sniping from the "compassionate" left. But no, she stuck it out and did the right thing.

Rush Limbaugh is an example of that. He has 20 million listeners a week, so I believe he is getting somewhere.

That is waht they said for years now and even when Reeagan won. the reality is that people after any administrtion that fails to solve things want a change. Its easy to be a monday morning quarterback or say this would ahve worked when you never had to do it;or say I'll solve that without actually having too. Ask any yopung person to talk abiut Johnson's Great Society programs;few know what your talking about.Tyhe pendulum swings thru out history.

And that's what makes the Palins pro-choice.

When he was running, I dismissed Ron Paul as a self-serving nut because he opposed the war. See, Paul believed that Bill Maher and Keith Olbermann had him on their shows because he was a fresh face. Hardly. They USED him to hammer Bush on the war. If you remember, Paul attacked Bush far more than he went after Democrats. Had he repeatedly said "Barack Obama is the most dangerous man running because he is a socialist", his talk show gigs would have met an abrupt end.

At the moment, with our spiral into socialism, Paul would look pretty damn good, though.
