Sorry, it has nothing to do with anything. Unless you're looking to work in broadway or something.

He "used that word for" (is that the grammar you learned in NY?) because you used that word first:

Honestly? It would be a tossup if all else is equal. If you display the attitude you've shown on this thread in the interview, though, and the Iowa candidate comes across as having a good attitude, I'm hiring the Iowa candidate, hands down. No contest.

Also, the chances are good that all else wouldn't be equal anyway, unless you went to Columbia, because Iowa has many excellent colleges. You probably went to CUNY-_______.

Also, you are the stereotypical NYC-er thinking you are the center of the universe. Ehhhh.

Let me guess....They've all spent their whole careers in NY and have never tried to work elsewhere? That's the only possible explanation for any of them thinking that. (I say this as someone who has been an employer, professor, and career counselor at various points.) A more likely scenario is that they didn't tell you that at all, but you heard what you wanted to hear.

You don't have to tell me anything. Just take this delusion into the national labor market and see how far it gets you.

1) Yes, I did use that word first, my mistake I meant to say establish (typing on the phone auto-correct happens to everyone).

2) The guy who said "Just sayin' is telling me how to use grammar? lol

3) I did go to CUNY, and i'm not ashamed of it either. Do you know how many professors I've known that have taught at elite institutions such as Colombia & Cornell? A lot of them, and they tell me that the education level is not much of a difference. You're basically paying for prestige and opportunity, not an education.

4) Of course, I want prestige and opportunity, but I want to acquire my bachelors degree first, then go for my masters at a school like Colombia, Cornell or NYU. Student loans are a huge burden, and if I have any hopes of creating a self efficient future for myself, I can't fall victim to it.

One of the reasons to get out on your own is to learn new skills and gain information about how to handle things. It will make you a much more interesting and competent person. Other people your age will be pursuing this path and in comparison you will appear to be lazy and stunted and soon they will drop you. Your parents home is ok for a little while only as long as you have concrete plans and a direction and are working towards them.

We are currently living with the bf's middle aged son who has worked a total of less than six months in his life, one month every couple of years till he gets tired of it and quits. If I have to hear one more time from the extremely limited scope of his reference stories about the only three people he knows, all of whom are older relatives, I am going to scream. It is beyond pitiful. If you're out there you make friends and learn about the world and establish a life that isn't your parents life.

Jonathan, you will find that what you think you have, ie, an advantage in that of a superiority because of where you grew up will actually be a disadvantage to you in most all the rest of the country.

You people act like i'm going to walk into an interview and say, "I know, I know i'm from NY, just hire me, lets get this over with" lol. Me believing that I have an advantage because of where I grew up, is NOT a disadvantage. However, me relying solely on that factor IS a disadvantage, big difference.

FYI, one of the first things schools look for in grad school applications is the applicant's ability to spell the name of the school.

Just sayin'.

(That's not improper grammar, by the way, since it's a common figure of speech. Your English Comp professor at CUNY must not have been one of the ones who also taught at Columbia or Cornell.)
