That reasoning is totally illogical. You're still getting taxed, whether or not you tip. Whenever you decide not to tip, you're saving that money. I will tip for service above and beyond what is expected of the employee, not just for doing what he/she was hired to do, or worse yet, for doing a lousy job. If the person is merely doing his/her job, he/she will not be tipped, whether he/she gets paid poorly by his/her employer or not.
It is not at all illogical. With your method, you are rewarding people for not working at all.
If you put sugar in it, yes, the tea is also terrible for you. I wouldn't pull up to a fast food place for ice, if I really needed it, I'd get it from the dispenser at the Quickie Mart when I got gas.
I am a regular at my favorite locally owned place, I can get a table even when they are sold out, they have also gotten me into their sister restaurant at the last minute when they were also sold out.
annerk - I disagree ... I have never worked in a medical setting, the health benefits (and LMT claims and advertising materials for why to get a massage) are not limited to a medical setting, and a good wage can be earned in many settings.
If you lived in a major resort area like I do, you would agree with me. The local day spas pay low wages to LMT's expecting them to make up the difference with tips.
Tipping, (which did NOT actually originate as an acronym for insuring prompt service) is OPTIONAL for customers. But then again, so is washing your hands after going #2. So it's really a question of how we want to be.

Good comparison, although you should wash hands anytime you go to the bathroom, regardless of which side it comes out.
Yeah, I chose the more extreme case to make the point, but thanks for the hygienic reminder.
which essentially means tipping is optional.
Plus I think it is more important to learn not to **** on your hand than to washing hands after.
