If your parents aren't footing the bill and you're pinching pennies to pay for a big wedding, is it worth it?

I would never blow my savings on a wedding. Whether you spend $1,000 or $100,000, you're still just as married.

It's insane the amount of money some people spend on one day to impress others. No way.

No. We decided to marry in Vegas (just us, no attendees), stay a few days, and call it good. It saved us a vat of money.

Of course, many brides want a more traditional wedding, and even the most stark weddings-on-a-budget are not particularly cheap.

I still opt for Vegas.

NO!!! I have been married twice and it is over in 5 minutes. Save your money for the honeymoon. Go somewhere nice. Or better yet put the money towards a house.

Depends on what you expect in wedding gifts from family. I come from a big family but we're generous. Big weddings are the norm but the bride and groom recoup most of what they spend in monetary gifts.

But at the same time I think it's incredibly gauche to spend a lot on a wedding expecting to get cash and prizes to make up for it.

Uh, hell, and NO.

I would have a B-wedding. You know, like "B-movies" it's going to be a "B-wedding." That money would be for the honeymoon, house, bills to get started, life insurance....

How about the engagement ring? Lots of women dream about that big shiny ring and I somehow think its similar to spening all your money on a wedding. What are your thoughts?

I personally think that wedding planning is a form of insanity. Anybody of normal means who plans huge weddings should have their heads examined.

Yesterday, I told my boyfriend that the ring doesn't have to be expensive, but he said "not too cheap either" and then I told him my ring size too.

I've never liked the ol' Bloody Diamond, if you catch my drift.

Interesting . What kind of ring are you getting him?

Blood diamonds? Yeah, I heard Canada has good quality diamonds too and no "blood" involved.
