I think the word you're looking for is "golddigger".

What if it was expected from you to also spend that kind of money on a man’s ring? Would you feel different if you received a ring that was not as expensive as you expect?

My wife has a 2.5 ct princess cut diamond ring.... unfortunately, she made me promise to upgrade it to a 3 carat cushion cut diamond ring... and being the fool that I am, I did promise her that... once things get more settled, I'll surprise her one day... along with her brand new jaguar...

Zero. It's an effin' scam created by the diamond industry.

They created that scam and not so long ago for men to get that expensive ring for their girl and as of recently they came up with the promise ring for young guys to buy for their girl. I wonder what's next.

No, I would prefer to keep his wedding band under $1000, but that's reasonable for a man's wedding band. I wear a right hand diamond that I purchased for myself, so my engagement ring should at least be valued higher than that, hence the suggested price range.

I agree^^. It does not have to be the biggest or most expensive, but I'd like it to be decent and something I liked.

Here's the thing. An engagement ring shouldn't break the bank. It should be within your budget. An engagement is not a measure of what kind of relationship you have - but it should be something that you are both happy with - whether it's small, nonexistent, or enormous. I think I'd rather have a simple band than cubic zirconium or something like that. While I'm not materialistic or into jewelry - BUT if I'm going to be wearing something on my finger for the rest of my life - I'd like to at least have it be something that I like!

Imagine if he had an expensive ring on his other hand or bracelet. Would the same rule apply to you where you would buy something more expensive than that?

I guess it’s common for women to put price limits on their man and how much is the minimum they should spend on a woman’s ring.
