I say, let'em bash away....within reason. There are plenty of misconceptions spewed about the state of California.
Given the vastness and diversity of the place, it's stupid from the get-go to stereotype it, but how else are you going to challenge the dumb comments made about it?
If nothing else, those who know the state's real quirks can speak to those realities and maybe educate the ignorant troll with some factual evidence that it's neither heaven nor hell.
At any rate, it's a conversation starter...just a little bit old to us fruits and nuts.

Yup. California’s a big and diverse state, in every sense. Ok, it’s pretty big on left politics, but there’s a lot going on if you aren’t from here or have never spent time in California. That’s forgivable ignorance. But more than any other polarizing state, I think California is the one most worth understanding. It’s politically fascinating, and I think its infrastructure, like Mulholland’s aqueduct, informs a lot of the history of why California is as it is.

I've never seen someone as race-obsessed as you seem to be? Almost all of your posts reference race and you seem to have a deep hatred of us Latinos?

Nevada is "cleaner" and "newer" than the Inland Empire?

I'm guessing you're referencing Las Vegas here...? The casinos have a "new" look to them, sure, but the actual neighborhoods of Las Vegas aren't that desirable, to me. It seems that there are two choices there, which are:

1.) live in a gated HOA neighborhood in Summerlin or Henderson where every house is a beige stucco and people are holed up in their homes all day long due to the heat or fear of being mugged. or....
2.) live in one of the slummy neighborhoods that make up about 80% of the rest of the city where it's pawn shops, bars, liquor stores, Dollar Tree, Walmart, strip mall churches, fast food, endless rows of apartments, pay-by-the-week joints, etc.

I don't gorge myself on nasty buffets, I'm not a gambler and I can manage my finances well enough so that paying an income tax isn't a huge burden to me. So, no thanks!

I'd rather live where I'm at in Palmdale. But if I had to choose between the Inland Empire and Las Vegas, it would be the IE, hands down!

There aren't a lot of Cubans in the Tri State region. Did you mean Puerto Ricans?

These are YOUR opinions! I don't care for Georgia (way too much crime in ATL and weirdness in the other parts), Michigan (too cold!), Nebraska (too isolated and flat), Utah (very provincial, unwelcoming to non-LDS) or Virginia (DC/Richmond are not my thing. California wins here).

All of your comments about California--for eons--have been about how awful it's been for you. Didn't you finally move, though?

Totally not true! I don’t fit into either of these categories and live here just fine. Where do you get your info? Do you live in CA?

BGS91762, glad to hear a different opinion on this as numerous claims have been made about California's high cost of living. If you have information to refute these claims please share!

I am now retired and happily living in CA for over 33 years. I’m from the Midwest originally so am so happy not to have the extreme expenses of heating your home for months on end. I am lucky enough to have bought my house years ago in the western part of the IE so enjoy low expenses and property taxes there. The food here is also much cheaper than the Midwest especially fruits and vegetables. As for income taxes, CA has a progressive tax rate, so not that bad compared to those in the higher incomes. Finally, I enjoy the variety of things So Cal offers and am willing to pay a little extra to live here.

The biggest difference between California and New York is that, north of Rockland and Westchester counties, New York is much friendlier to middle-class and working-class families, despite high property taxes. In New York, public schools throughout the state are incredibly well-funded by national standards. As a result, student outcomes are much higher in New York than in California or any other Mexican border state. Also, New York is, overall, much safer than California because most people who live in New York north of Rockland and Westchester counties are white.

Outside of its major metropolitan areas, California is plagued by abject poverty and abysmal outcomes, mostly due to its high minority population. In fact, most exurban and rural areas in California look and feel more like Mexico than the United States. As such, most small towns in California are filled with Mexican nationals who cannot speak one word of English and live in tiny, rundown cinder-block homes with barred windows. I'm sorry, but there's nothing remotely desirable about that.
Wow you are a straight up bigot. It’s not even worth having a conversation with a narrow minded Neanderthal such as yourself. I’d say “good day,” but I wouldn’t mean it. So I’ll just say, please chip a tooth or something.

I agree that his post is stupid. Obviously he or she has not traveled around much of California.

What a utterly stupid ignorant statement......just because I live in California and reside in Riverside doesn’t mean “I’m heavily influenced by Mexican culture”. You had to reach way down in the bottom of your ass to pull that out.

I have friends who live in all those states. I have visited them. Theire ok. Just not something I would want to move and live in. Personal choice. Dont read anything more into it than that.

Instead of making racist assumptions about me based on where I live and what I’m inclined to do could simply ask me why I wouldn’t move to those states. I worked back East for projects in the past and I have no desire to live there. At least not at this time. In some cases is the politics of the state, medical services or lack of, jobs, career growth, possibly starting another business, the weather may suck, humidity, bugs, rain storms, hurricanes, heavy snow.... You are fairly clueless as to my situation and well.....probably pretty much everyone else’s situation. None of the states with the exception of Utah would interest me. And Utah is like 10th on my retirement list.
There is more to moving to a different state than...it’s nice.

I dont fawn over any state in fact I dare you to find any posts that say anything more than I would probably move to x y or z state when I retire.
