Sacramento will have a solid 6 hours of very comfortable cool temps like Oakland both in the morning and night but with the advantage of full sun and pool party SUNNY weather from 2 to 6pm, with a warm balmy backyard-garden weather in the evening. Oakland may stay overcast for most of the day during the middle of the summer.
Sacramento is scorching hot in the summer, often insufferable. I lived there for 3 years and enjoyed fall and spring, winters not so much, but the summers were especially brutal.

The heat just permeates well into late night. For someone from the Bay, it was a nonstop heatwave.

Oakland is very comfortable by comparison.

Like SF, I hear people complain of "cold" summer evenings and nights in Oakland.
Thats my favorite part of summer, the cool nights. Such a refreshing departure from just about everywhere else...

You mean it "offers more extreme" weather. It has the same weather patterns but more extreme temps, basically the least stereotypical CA climate most people like.

Oh yeah that 6 hours you're guaranteed comfortable weather in Sac during summer when 99% of people are sleeping lol.

More like 88-106. San Jose is better than Sac in summer, warm but not oppressively hot like Sac.

Coastal Californians often exaggerate Sacramento Summers. Again, Sacramento is as comfortable if not more comfortable than the average comfort level of any east, midwest or southern American city with one big advantage Sacramento has one of the COOLEST summer nighttime and morning temps in the nation, very often cooler than coastal Southern Cal.

The average summer high for Sacramento is 88F to 92F, not in the 100's, and if you account for heat index, you can drop that to 85F to 90F average high.

San Jose and Oakland, just behind SF have the COOLEST/COLDEST SUMMER evening, nighttime and morning temps in the Nation for larger cities, average of 52F to 57F. The coldest summer you'll experience is in the Bay Area; this is often why they exaggerate a Sacramento summer because they have know idea what a NORMAL SUMMER IS like across the nation.

All the below cities have UNUSUALLY COOL SUMMER TEMPS during the evening, nighttime and morning temps in the nation for larger cities, generally in the 50's to low 60's with comfortable dew points. This is where Sacramento fits in with it's Coastal Western Sister cities during the summer.

MORNING LOW AVERAGE SUMMER TEMPS:
San Francisco - low 50's
Oakland - low to mid 50's
San Jose - low to mid 50's
Denver - low to mid 50's - obviously not a coastal city
Portland - 50's to low 60's - not a coastal city
Seattle - 50's to low 60's
Sacramento - mid 50's to low 60's
Southern Cal Coastal Cities like Long Beach - mid 60's to high 60's

In comparison to:
Fresno - high 60's to mid 70's
Austin - mid 70's to high 80's
Phoenix - high 80's to high 90's

See how Bay Area people exaggerate Sacramento weather. Which is so funny coming from this guy from Walnut Creek which is one of the warmest/hottest places in the Bay Area in the summer with overall average temps just a few degrees shy of Sacramento temps.

Sacramento summers average very comfortable temps from 6am to 1pm - more like 99% of the people are awake, working and playing.

What r u talking about? It is no exaggeration in the least to say that Sacramento is really hot in the summer compared to Oakland. It's downright uncomfortable from our perspective. Going from 68 to 98 is a massive difference.

Yes no one said people arent living, but its still very hot compared to here. To say it's 'comfortable' in the same way Oakland is, is almost criminal.

Lol

Coming from Zurich I'm sure your tolerance threshold is skewed. Often people from all parts of the nation, even Europe tell me how much they love SACRAMENTO weather including it's summers.

Sacramento summers are no more insufferable than most of the cities in America, and often more comfortable because our famous Delta Wind/Breeze Microclimate thanks to the cold Pacific Ocean.

Long Beach is probably the odd man out here in both being just plain odd and in being in Southern California rather than Northern California.

It has a giant pyramid.

There's a permanently docked art deco cruise ship that's supposed to be haunted as a main attraction.

Much of the city is taken up by the port and industrial activity and oil field pumps are located here and there sometimes with some rough attempt at disguise.

It's a really diverse and often working class city, but is next to some pretty bougie communities in neighboring Orange County.

There's also a really active arts, performance and music scene.

Maybe it's since I'm from the area and am familiar with most all parts of both northern and southern California that I find this an odd statement, how Long Beach is seemingly not of its place. It's in a funny way an anchor city for Orange County among other things.

So does Sacramento, 56F to 58F. The lows for Oakland and San Jose range from 55-58 from May through August FYI.
