to add more heat to the fire I would say Miami and Houston are more cosmopolitan than Atlanta or Dallas.
AWH HELL!! YOU DONE DID IT NOW!!!LOL!!Yes you are trying to start something.Well what do you think of as cosmopolitan?Miami has a reputation because of South Beach but other than that,I don't see it.I personally think they are all about as even as any 4 cities can be.If you take in consideration of the most educated;Atlanta would win,Diverse;Miami;Per capita Incomes;Atlanta,Tourism;Miami those are cosmopolitan factors in my opinion. There are more but that is all I can think of at the moment. Then there are things that objective as some places may feel more or less cosmo.
All this argument about who is denser has now been put to rest.Density according to Census:
Houston: Density 3,828/sq mi (1,471/km2 Dallas: Density 3,697.44/sq mi (1,427.38/km2 ) Miami: - Density 6,558.2/sq mi (2,532.1/km2) Atlanta: Density 4,018/sq mi (1,514/km2)
I knew Atlanta was denser than the Texas Two-some .Miami itself is so small,so I was not sure.So we have facts now,so whats the next argument, because this one is CLOSED!!
^ and the strangest thing about that is Miami is only 113 years old and is the youngest of the 4 cities yet development patterns turned out vastly different than the other 3. Perhaps that had something to do with the founder Henry Flagler being from New York.
here is a pic of the Little Havana area which is due west of downtown
although not especially attractive it's full of 3,4,5 story multi family buildings plus some midrises & corner grocery stores, this goes on for a few miles inland.
Actually you made a partially incorrect statement.Miami is older than Atlanta by more than 10 years. It was settled in 1825 but not incorporated as a city still 1896.Atlanta was settled and incorporated in1837 as the city of "Terminus"then later in 1847 the name changed to Atlanta where it was then incorporated again..Also, Atlanta was never planned as a city.It was just a stop on the rail road.It grew so fast, that it became a city before there was any real planning.Just as it started to grow, the Civil War broke out.3major battles and the famous "Sherman's March to the Sea" where the city was torched,it became more important to work with what they had after the war than to start all over.

Atlanta - 131 Sq. Miles
Dallas - 342 Sq. Miles

I think anyone woud say Houston and Dallas are more dense than Atlanta. Like I was saying earlier, Texas cities are built more dense than most southern cities.

Does Atlanta really win in most educated, or are you just going off of them having more universities than Houston/Dallas? Diversity? Miami, Houston, and Dallas Atlanta is far behind. Per capita incomes? Not much of a difference between Houston/Dallas/Atlanta, so that's a wash.

Atlanta just recently became more denser (like last year pretty much). But that's just the city. Looking at urban areas, it goes: Miami, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta.

I don't agree with your notion of Miami being more urban but I would agree with you here. Both Miami and to a lesser extent Houston attract people from all over the world.

Nah, Miami grew the way it did because of the Everglades. That's why the suburbs are even dense. If there were no Everglades, Miami would have already sprawled to Naples.
