That's why.

As they say "wish you were here" and you would see their "difference from Russians". They have the wishful thinking. Well, if they consider a low level of education and low standard of living are European quality, then certainly they are Europeans.

but you get the impression that these Russians and Ukrainians are more belligerous
than others these days. Together with islamist "jihad" people.
It's in the media, the education, praising of the glorious past etc.
See this very threat, military operations and local, temporary successes
are the dominating subject.

But I cannot see how this is politically important anyway. Just for pride.
The more one side succeeds, the more the other side increases their efforts,
the logic of war. Instead they should search for a de-escalation strategy,
the responses getting weaker, still enough to deter

---------

also see all these "volunteers" : they are proud to fight, they enjoy it.
It's considered good and honorious in those cultures. Those volunteers
may get more recognition later in their social groups better jobs maybe.

thanks for the RSN link.

http://rt.com/news/183924-russia-gor...aine-military/

headline: Gorbachev on Kiev’s military op: 'It must be stopped immediately'
Published time: August 30, 2014 14:16

and then:
Ex-Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev has urged Kiev to bring their military operation
in eastern regions to an end
...
“It must be stopped immediately,” Gorbachev told RSN Radio, referring to Kiev’s
“anti-terrorist” operation, launched in April this year in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
-------------------------------
that's what rt.com makes from it. Gorbachev didn't say it, he didn't refer to Kiev and
that Kiev must stop it, rather that it must _be_ stopped and UN,EU,and the involved
parties must play a key role in it, while Russia should stay away.
It's only rt.com that formulates it this way, not RSN nor the Western Media.

how can this end ? Militarily, Kiev might win and suppress the rebellion.
otoh, I cannot see how the rebels can end this by victory, the other party is
so much bigger and stronger. They may hope that it gets too costly for Kiev
and that Kiev is forced to agree to a favourable peace/ceasefire.
But what could the conditions be for this ? (amnesty, more autonomy,...)
Even if Kiev withdraws the troups, they will never accept the separation,
they (and others, probably not even Russia) won't recognize Novorussia as a new state.
Why should they ? The rebels can't force them, maybe Russia could, but Russia stays away.

And then the danger persists that later they will start operations
again, depending on events, mood, elections, new weapons, whatever.

The separatists/rebels/insurgents should formulate their conditions
what they might accept without insisting on independence.

Yes, does anyone know what the end game is?

Canadian military just sent CF-18 fighter jets over to Lithuania
to help patrol for any potential threat there.
As could escalate, you never know with Putin.....WW3

It will not have much imagination, if we assume that eventually as a result the rebels with the Ukrainian disappointed soldiers (with the Kiev junta, untalented commanders and so on ...) can go to Kiev.

Promptly substantial substantive negotiations have to start it - not on technical issues,
but regarding the political organization of society and the rule of law in the South-East
of Ukraine", Putin said in an interview with the State television. Aim must be, which
emphasized "to protect legal interests of the people living there," Putin.

The Kremlin countered the impression but in the afternoon, Putin called for the
statehood of East Ukraine. His spokesman Dimitri Peskow said journalists,
"New Russia" should be part of the Ukraine "of course". It was an internal conflict
in the country.

Ukrainian patrol boat hit with artillery. The sound you hear is the shell going through the air, not an airplane.

Apparently the DNR has access to 2 Tulpan SPMs (self propelled mortars) that are capable of great destruction. Ukrainians just give them away.
