Turn off that Ukrainian TV of yours for a moment that keeps feeding you incessant propaganda, and don't be lazy - do a little research yourself.
Ukrainian cossacks were afraid of serfdom, that was creeping upon them from Poland, not to mention that they were "second sort" of people to Catholic Poland, retaining their Orthodox culture.
They knew that Moscow would be interested in keeping Ukraine as a buffer zone, and thus keeping cossacks as a Host ( "sech" as we know it in Russian) - a free warriors. Those were the reasons they were seeking Moscow's protection in the 1600ies.
As I've said - do a little research yourself, don't listen to certain "specialists" on Russia here.
Even now, Russians are slaves of the semi feudal corruption pyramid that Putin built. It is true that corrupt systems allow "freedoms" to tweak and bypass the laws, to buy courts and justice, to buy outside the law enforcement and punitive services etc.. for the ones with money and power (i.e. people running and benefitting from the Russian pyramid of corruption). But for the people at the bottom, it is slavery and never ending peonage, they have little recourse, and Russians just love it the way it is as long as the Fuhrer attacks something defenseless once in a while.
Russian nazis are famous about being ignorant about their history, they learn everything from TV. Take any book on the rise of Muscovy, all the treachery, feuds and senseless deaths will make your head spin, things didnt get much better since then. Sure, Russians like it rough, that is why they deify every blood soaked maniac who ruled them. The larger absolute death toll, the bigger the love with Stalin being #1 object of the Russian affection followed by Peter the Great and Ivan Grozny.

Just like in the west. Justice can be bought anywhere, corruption is everywhere and all pervasive.
Nowhere near the west, especially at the everyday level of a common citizen/ small business owner who cannot even fathom that western like bureaucratic efficiency, justice and transparency can exist, as imperfect as those things might be for the people who grew up with them to fully appreciate what they have. Also, American elites/ruling class has certain moral standards, codes of conduct, self-regulatory cleansing mechanisms, money can't buy many things in the West, it's something that Russians can't fully comprehend. It's a typical Russian attitude to seek imperfections in otherwise much more functional Western societal mechanisms, point at those imperfections and feel good about their comprehensive dysfunction.

If Ukrainian, Russian or any other courts can prove that money was stolen, and the money ownership is established, Western banks would freeze accounts. They do it all the time for every other country. Post soviet kleptocrats have many tricks in their sleeves that makes ownership tracking and fund restitution difficult. But I have a solid impression that American financial investigators are ahead of the money laundering game, they can squeeze Putin & Co or any other financial balls at any time they will be given the orders. If Eastern European kleptocrats rob their countries in a manner that complies with the Western financial laws, the West can't do much, without sanctions or a war. Why the West should do the job of the post soviet legal systems? Ukrainian, Russian or any other legal system didn't even try to unravel corruption and money laundering schemes for the very obvious reasons - everybody in the power loop steals and hides the loot, there are no clean guys at the top. It's takes radicalism to destroy post soviet kleptocracies, they will not extinguish themselves.

You are a seasoned Russian nazi, you know the drill, you do know that Russian imperial nazism doesn't recognize neither Ukraine nor Ukrainians right to exist, no matter what they do or feel they must be assimilated into collective. If not for the comrade Putin, some other Russian Fuhrer would strike Ukraine in the back sooner or later, it's was a matter of time. I have no hatred but disgust for the lying, hateful, twisted nazis and their Banana Empire, comrade. Russians were decent people before a virus of the Imperial nazism infected their brains and soul. The virus has changed the Russian brain chemistry, you cannot even comprehend how silly and groundless your imperial pretenses are. You are bitter to the point of being delusional, money and educational "live in" trips to E. Europe do can fix some of that. It's silly to compare American election and politicians with a moral absolute. How about comparing it with Russia? And it compares great, it can be much better but your regurgitating propaganda and whining will not make it better. Actually, American complacency and passivity is at all times high, America is run by sheer power of the above global average ruling class. So you can complain, do nothing, whine, regurgitate Russian propaganda and dream about Russian like blissful existence, and things will still work much better than they do in Russia.
You do have a well defined reality avoidance syndrome, delusion of the Russian grandeur mixed with propaganda displaces objective reality. You might be involved with robbing Mother Russia, since your life is not inconvenienced by the Russian feudal system, and it's a great system if you have plenty of the grease in your pockets. In that case, it's most definitely mental displacement. People do something deplorable and corrupt but they have this urge to feel great about majesty of Mother Russia they plunder. The easiest way is to deny reality of the Russian neo feudalism, it's not feudalism it's an ancient self-organization mechanism mother Russia uses to shake off the chains of the Anglo Saxon domination. This way you feel great about what you do, and rewards are not too bad either. But you can't fool the world comrade Frolov.
