Anything specific you were wondering about?

I have a pair of elderly friends who have been spending the winter there, and I’m worried about them. They’re due back the first week of April.

Scottsdale is no different from anywhere in the metro. Cases doubled overnight. There are several covids at the hospital where a family member works. They do not have adequate PPE and must reuse surgical masks and other supplies - they are not being given N95s. Arizona is a backward state when it comes to public health. You can be sure that Arizona will act late and not be prepared. The governor here is clearly focused on the economy and politics (he made golf courses and gun shops essential in his declaration). Your relatives would be well advised to get out sooner rather than later.

This is America!!

The reports are that the truckers are getting supplies to the stores. People are stocking the shelves all night and letting old people shop first. Carnival Cruise line told Trump “We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships” GM said hold our cars and watch this; we can make those ventilators where we were making cars starting next week. Women and children are making homemade masks and handing out snacks to truckers. Restaurants and schools said, We’ve got kitchens and staff; we can feed kids.” Churches are holding on-line services and taking care of their members and community. NBA basketball players said, “Hold our basketballs while we write checks to pay the arena staff.” Construction companies said, “Here are some masks for the medical staff and doctors”. Breweries are making sanitizer out of the left-over ingredients. We thought we couldn’t live without Baseball, NASCAR, NBA or going to the beach, restaurants or a bar. Instead, we’re trying to keep those businesses open by ordering take-out.

What communist China didn't count on was America saying "Hey, hold my beer and watch this."

I think a Japanese Admiral in the middle of the Pacific said it best in 1941, "I think we have awakened a sleeping giant."

Give us a few more weeks (maybe months) and we will be doing much better! And stop listening to the hysterical media!!

We have wonderful country and an amazing God.

I know we will be ok

Upbeat post.
One problem: Carnival Cruise line told Trump “We can match those big Navy Hospital ships with some fully staffed cruise ships." Thanks, but not thanks. Take your floating petri dishes to dry dock and bleach them from stem to stern. And then do it again. But that's just me. (My wife is always laughing at how grossed out I get about cruise ships.)

Which part is incorrect? Ducey? We did not hear from him for nearly a week after the cases strted. He did not shut down schools until most schools closed on their own. He did not close bars and restaurants until they closed on their own or cities closed them. Do you disagree that he calls golf courses essential in a time of an international pandemic?

yeah, something gross about even the thought of using a cruse ship as a floating hospital..

I'm surprised I haven't been flamed for daring to post ANYTHING positive in this gloom and doom thread...

Yaaaawn.

I'm confident that small businesses that employ hedonistic millennials share my experience. Utopia? Not even close. Simply a business owner who cares about the big picture, including employee's personal choices and the economy.
'
Candidly I'm thrilled with the new reality: That business owners actually have a say in their employee's personal decisions.
I was joking because you picked a Utopia example to make your point. "What if people had a football field with three employees all wearing masks......". It deserved a joking response.

Working through this (taking our massive lumps) is a legitimate debate and this will be RAGING in the coming months. i.e., pick your pain. I get it. I do! AND I have lobbied for a balance of power (wishing for a recession). Obviously not this. See, we can agree.

That all said, I did ask you a question. What industry are you in? I'm simply curious. Because you are calling your employees "nose-picking" and "liars". You said it. To me at least, that shows a lack of leadership. We can agree to disagree. I would sit them down, show the data and scare them into understanding why social distancing is important. You know, with statistics but simplified. But 1st, you need to be open-minded and understand why people are piling on. Which would be a positive attribute with any great leader. Unless you subscribe to bullying and "I'm always right" which is the method from the very top.

Here's the thing, people point at the elected-term-limited pols as the problem, and they deserve some of the beating (look no further than the bail out pork product). However, at every level of government we have been paying trillions of dollars (total) into a system that has established seemingly infinite levels of bureaucracy supposedly to prepare for disasters and keep the country safe and they have failed miserably.

Golf courses for the most part are open, most other attractions are closed. Casino's too.

Ducey shut down bars and in-restaurant dining for the entire county including Scottsdale last week.

Honestly, it's probably as safe here as anywhere. Weather is mostly good so that helps. I'd be more worried about their means of travel returning.
