Being the newbie everyone was very helpful in showing me how to properly handle a gun. Safety is paramount. Everyone goes out of their way to give the person shooting a wide berth. Guns are always pointed down and your chamber is open, etc... Once the first beer is cracked the shooting is DONE for the day.

I was amazed at how unreliable many of the automatics are and how inaccurate a handgun is even at close range unless you are very well trained. Guns do NOT operate the way they do on TV and in the movies that's for sure! Part of it might be my inexperience in handling them but I was convinced that a revolver is the way to go for home protection.
I have nothing BUT autoloaders, and they work great, never jammed. of course I keep them clean and in good working order, but my 6906 S&W and my Ruger P345 have never failed.

That being said, and I alluded to it on a previous post.

1. If you are not WILLING to use the gun, don't buy the gun. I hope to NEVER have to use mine, but if it comes down to a perp vs my family, the perp is gonna have a hole drilled right between the horns.

2. I also have knives in various places, AND I am well trained in their use as well. A gerber MK-1, 2 gerber MK-2's, a gerber MK-3, and a pair of fairborn sykes version 3's. It's a well documented fact that a trained knife fighter will take out a gun if they are within 10 ft of the gun. Additionally, they knife will take out the unarmed intruder with ease.

I am well trained in both weapons, as well as the pr-24 and several other weapons, shinai, etc etc.

I am unafraid to use any of my weapons, to protect my family. I will spare the court system lengthy trials, as well as the expense of incarcerating the perp.

That being said, that's me. That's not someone else. If you are not trained in the use of a weapon, do not own it, do not attempt to use it, you will hurt yourself, or get yourself hurt. A friend of mine was faced with a guy that was holding a knife, and my friend happens to be an "X" army MP with 3 tours in Nam behind his belt. His comment to the guy was, "You better hope that that knife is made of chocolate". You have to be trained before using a weapon, and you have to be unafraid to USE the weapon.

Never ever pull a weapon, unless you intend to use it.

No one should own a gun if they are uncomfortable or have a family situation in which it would add danger to the mix (alcoholic, abusive, drama).

We have guns. We know how to use them. Safety is always the most important thing. And our children will be taught how to handle them safely, as well.

so if someone was legally carrying a gun, you would take the weapon from them and unload it? you do realize that you open yourself up to being tossed into jail if the person decides to press charges for theft and assault? unless you are actually threatened by said person carrying the firearm, but then it would not be legal carry would it?

I don't own a firearm. Should every household own a firearm? I say, to each their own.

Just you having a loaded gun is a threat to me. You could draw and fire upon me at any time. Thus I prefer it if you don't have one...to protect myself. Protecting myself is not against the law, is it?

None--because I don't pass by people. I don't like being around other people.

I walk, and most people around here drive. They wouldn't walk to save their lives. Lazy bastards.

Someone driving past while you're walking is a threat to you. They could suddenly decide to run over you.

You should probably start pulling people from their cars to lessen the threat.
