Rlarson, I haven't been here long but I've noticed this forum seems to be pretty homophobe-heavy, much more so than other places I visit. The majority of the country is on our side however (as a straight supporter of equal rights for the LGBT community) and moving more and more so every day. I said this in another thread, but as the more bigoted generations die off, they are being replaced with much more socially tolerant generations. The bigots are slowly but surely losing this battle as people realize what a non-issue it is.
That's why the bigots have the so called "young guns" working for them, to try and keep the bigots alive, its not gonna work
Absolutely...enough is enough. I notice that Romney refusing to support his gay foreign policy advisor just flew by the heads of GOP posters. It's a shame, because by all accounts he was a sharp cookie. That seems to indicate that a Romney administration would take us right back to a straight white male set of "leaders;" that's no longer acceptable, nor does it reflect the population of America.
Its a shame Romney is being led by these people just to be president, if he'd stand on his own 2 feet and fire back at his party he would at least look like a man, not a shadow.
There is no "hate crime list," and I really wish people would learn about these laws already... because I'm getting rather sick of explaining it over & over. For the last time, anyone can be either a victim of or perpetrator of a hate crime - black, white, straight, gay, Christian, Atheist, and everything in-between. ANYONE.
I think you meant to say they shouldn't be a protected class, but again that really doesn't mean what you think. It only means you cannot be discriminated against (i.e. in regards to employment or housing) based on sexual orientation, and that ALSO includes heterosexuals and bisexuals. If you were denied housing or employment for being straight, that level of protected class discrimination would apply to you too. Are we clear now?
No it is not clear, and I think you are confused between hate-crime and discrimination laws. Let's face it, gays get special treatment when they are victimes of crimes. Such crimes are routinely classified as hate-crimes only because the victim happened to be gay.

No, I'm not confused at all - you're the one who is confusing these terms, and the definitions were explained in my post. If somebody is charged with a hate crime against a gay person, it's generally (hopefully always) because the perpetrator was actually committing a crime based on their bigotry... one doesn't get charged with a hate crime simply because the victim was gay, the courts need evidence it was specifically discriminatory in nature.
Maybe they're the victims more often because, oh I don't know, there are more people who hate gays than straights?? Just look around these forums some time, and tally up the negative comments towards one group vs the other. And use your eyes.
I agree, although I think for a majority of people who disagree with Republicans on the gay stance, they aren't voting with gay rights as a top priority, it's just a very obvious and glaring example of Republicans being bigoted and judgemental against a group of citizens for no rational reason. People are born gay, there's nothing that can change that. It's not like they're out there destroying society or partaking in illegal or unethical acts. They're just trying to live their lives with the hand dealt to them.
Most people who I know that disagree with conservative republicans views on homosexuality are straight people. They disagree because it's offensive. It's certainly not their #1 issue they have in elections, but it doesn't help the Republican cause for a majority of Americans.
They don't need to embrace gay rights by any means, but at least stop outwardly fighting against them. History will look back on that with a lot of embarrassment.
Yes,Seems like your have read their play book. Am i the one sounding like a broken record or are they?
Among the GOP base, there is constant harping about somebody else, some "other," who is deliberately, assiduously and with malice aforethought subverting the Good, the True and the Beautiful: Subversives. Commies. Socialists. Ragheads. Secular humanists. Blacks. ****. Feminazis. The list may change with the political needs of the moment, but they always seem to need a scapegoat to hate and fear.

Sity, I asked you to list the rights you will lose when same sex marriage becomes legal and you seem to be ignoring me.
Why?
Shall I ask again?

Gays often confused hate with not approving of or not believeing in gay marriage. I don't hate gays just do not believe marriage between two of same sex is what marriage is about. No one is attackig gays in that issue its gays attacking marriage:IMO. I have no probelm with gays having unions that allow the same rights ;just not marriage. They also think that they can force people to beleive something their cores values say is wrong;they can't.
