Sometimes I feel like a confused old dinosaur.

I grew up in a different time. A time when Don Rickles was popular and funny.

Now many seem overly sensitive and aggrieved by someone or something.

I wonder if I'm really out of touch, insensitive; and bigoted.

I hope not. Or at least I try not to be.

Nevertheless, I find myself compensating by refraining from engagement for fear of seeming intolerant, ignorant and insensitive.

I suspect I'm not unique among white middle class baby boomer men.

On the other hand, a greatly enjoy getting together with friends and cutting up.
From the outside looking in, you'd think we despised each other. But we're just having good fun with each other.

I've ( we've) become virtually unoffendable.

I hear you. I recently gave up golf, and I figure if someone from this generation golfed with us, they might be scarred for life. While the people I golf with are best of friends.

I always figured that if someone was looking for a reason to hate me, they will find one.

I didn't know. It just related to my own experience.

The funny thing is, that you have to have a lot of humility to play golf. It can humble you right quick.

As I'm sure you know, golf is one of the best teachers of humility ( or humiliation ) that exists.

Scott Peck ( author of The Road Less Traveled ) wrote a marvelous book on golf when he took up the sport.

Yeah, I know very well. I always say that when I hit a bad shot, that I am already thinking about the next shot.

I wish I knew how to draw cartoon characters, because I could do a comic strip about golf, that everyone could relate too, and laugh about.

I could turn the discussion to spiritual things and share those things as well.

I'm not much of a book reader, the Bible is the only book that I can remember that I have read all the way through.

You'd enjoy book. He ties golf in with spirituality, in a very entertaining way.

In fact, atheists and disbelievers help me to sharpen my views more then those who agree with me.

I'm learning to approach discussions here like I would at say, a cocktail party. I may be having, or listening to a stimulating conversation, when someone jumps into the conversation with irrelevant or devisive opinions. Then I just ( politely ) walk away, and search for another discussion.

The focus in this forum SHOULD be on the issues, NOT the individual posters, although it is entirely human to react to some of the antics and approaches to discussion taken by some of the more aggressive posters here. Indeed, we need the patience of God (or Job) to restrain ourselves from reacting to some of the carping posters here.

Good to know that some posters are not offended by debate. Thank you for your comments.

This is in fact a FORUM. The clue is in the name.
Forum: ˈfɔːrəm/ an event or medium where people can exchange opinions and ideas on a particular issue; a meeting organized for this purpose.

And yes thank Mystic. I believe that if all the atheists disappeared from the forum, it would probably cease to function. Because what's the point of having a discussion in an echo chamber?

That one doesn't agree with your argument does not mean one is not aware of your argument...

If yours, for example, were anything proven true and correct beyond a reasonable doubt, I would certainly not be the only one to disagree with your argument. If I am entertaining to watch, your entertainment cup must runneth over given how many others don't agree with your argument either. Ever thought about why that is? I mean really? Or are you again going to pretend you are looking down upon us lesser minds with your all-knowing one?

Please. Even an ounce of objectivity about the counter-arguments you should well know by now are well past due and more than appropriate. That and/or let's recall the many times we've also had to recognize that beliefs like yours are not reconcilable with that of an atheist. Surely you know this, and if you don't understand the reasons from a fair, reasonable and objective standpoint, then you surely don't have the all-knowing mind you think you have.

I for one found AA's version of atheism also a bit peculiar, but I was okay with his notions along those lines just like I am okay with your beliefs and all the others. I don't miss the ongoing simple repetition of the same old "lists," and other habits that tended to be more than a bit annoying over time, but nothing anyone can't ignore quite easily. As I tried to do before AA left and still do with some others that are similarly inclined that way...

"He was the most objective?" Perhaps more true than not. Certainly more objective than most people posting in this forum, atheist or not.

I also totally agree the focus should be on the issues and not the individuals, but also of course, we're all human. So, even as many of us also call for the same focus, there are individuals who more often than not force a focus on lesser more petty things. If AA has been banned again, I'd say some of those annoying habits caught up with him. May the time off serve AA and all of us for good rather than bad. Better rather than worse...
