Sheesh, if this didn't happen on the Beltline, that's a serious reporting error. The Beltline people need to fire back immediately and point out that this wasn't on their turf.

They should demand a public retraction and take the media to court for slander.

The point is that the media shouldn't mention the Beltline in a crime story if it didn't actually happen there.

Okay that's a completely different situation...ON the Beltline as opposed to NEAR the Beltline.

I wonder how many of these incidents there have actually been? That would be interesting information. I'm glad to see that the APD is responding to them.

I agree that sometimes the news add location "highlights" (beltline, underground, ga state) to draw more viewers to their station. Strictly for ratings and not caring about what impact it places on a particular area or business.

The article says, "The uptick in crime on the Beltline and in Buckhead has made Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed upset and prompted immediate action by the police chief."

I wonder if they are going to increase patrols in Buckhead as well? Or just on the Beltline?

This isn't even news worthy. When it gets warm cities like Chicago have 40+ shootings every other weekend but people here are running around like a chicken with its head cut off crying over a few robberies…smh

You're talking about a project that runs through some areas that are still somewhat shady, so you're going to have these issues- especially when you promote the project as being the next best thing since sliced bread, which will draw outsiders who become prey for the dirtbags in the area. Over time the Beltline should improve the area and raise prices, forcing some of the dregs to other areas, but that assumes the city keeps these types of incidents under control so people don't get scared to go there, thereby preventing the Beltline from developing to is full potential.

But most of those shootings occur in areas that no one wants to go to- they don't happen in an area that's being promoted heavily to try to daw people in like the Beltline is.
