Los Angeles and California in general, and it's not close. California is the only state that grows the same ingredients they do in Mexico, has the largest MexAmerican population, and borders Mexico.

This thread reminded me of this list I just saw of the 50 best tacos in America. Mmmmm:

After flipping through that slide show, I have made the executive decision to go to #1 on the slide tomorrow for lunch. Thanks!

LOL that list lost all credibility when titos tacos was listed at #7 , seems like the the title should had been "50 best tacos in the U.S. for white Americans".

Some of those look good. Though some look questionable--what's with this cheddar cheese on a taco horses***t? And "puffy tacos"? Not a fan of that Tex-Mex style stuff. I'd rather go eat tacos al pastor at some random taco wagon in some two-bit Mexican-run farmtown in the Willamette Valley or Sacramento Valley...

Cool-Surprisingly I've been to Bear Flag Fish Co in Newport Beach (so good!) but not El Vez in Philly-on my list though.

Yeah some of the tacos on the list probably shouldn't be there and some are legit. I just had the ones that ranked highest for Chicago (#10) for example - really damn good tacos. However, Big Star is ranked like #12 - people who don't know Mexican food overrate the hell out of that place. It shouldn't even be on the list - there's loads of better places in the city, let alone the rest of the country.

Good list, especially for those who want to venture out and try some non traditional tacos from time to time.
