Clemson's defense is better than last year's. I don't think Louisville's O-line has gotten any better and their defense has definitely taken a step back. They've got Lamar and that's about it. That will be good enough to get them through much of their schedule, but not this game, I think. They are at home and it will be Kelly Bryant's first start in a hostile environment, but as Dabo says, "We're built for this".
Wow.
Clemson soundly defeated them.
The thing that gets me about Clemson is that.. They didn't look like a team that put up 47 points on the #14 team.. But.. They did it.
In all honesty right now.. Clemson should get a number of votes for #1. Alabama beat an FSU team that.. Honestly, if they had played the past 2 weeks, might be unranked.
Oklahoma beat a pretend #2 team.
The rest of their games have been against scrubs. Clemson has, in back to back weeks, beaten the #13 and #14 ranked teams. There's an argument that at this point, they are the #1 team. That's not going to happen.. But..
And.. How about Mississippi State?
USC should slide.. Penn State should go up to #4 this week. Double OT at home vs Texas?
Michigan.. They may lose before the Penn State game.
Auburn's offense does not look good at all, either.
I thought the Virginia Tech/ECU game was interesting.. Then the 3rd quarter happened. Holy crap.
What??? I don't know what game you were watching. Heck, even the coach's kid got to play in that game.
Defense looked great. Few problems with containment of Jackson, but nothing bad.
The first half offense.. Multiple stalled drives where they kicked a FG or attempted the FG. Speaking of the kicking team.. Huegle had a missed FG and a blocked PAT.
Bryant worries me on 3rd downs a bit, but I'm not sure it's him that's the problem.. Renfrow.. No problems. Deon Cain is a poor man's replacement for Mike Williams. Ray-Ray McCloud.. He's one of those players that will drive you nuts.. He'll break free for an 80 yard touchdown, but then he'll drop a simple catch. And.. Who is the tight end on this team? Third down last year, they had a choice between Renfrow, Leggett and Williams that you could throw to with confidence. It's pretty much Renfrow now.
The defense.. I can't say enough about. They.. If things go all out and there's an Alabama vs Clemson part 3 (Which I honestly hope there isn't).. I highly doubt we see another game with 65+ points scored.
BTW... Swinney's kid plays in every game.. He's the holder.
In all honesty right now.. Clemson should get a number of votes for #1. Alabama beat an FSU team that.. Honestly, if they had played the past 2 weeks, might be unranked.
Oklahoma beat a pretend #2 team.
I agree with this. I suppose the thinking before the start of the season was that Clemson would be a lot weaker after losing many of their star players so it made sense to place OSU, who had many starters returning, above Clemson. At the same time, though, it seems unfair to rank a team that annihilated OSU in the post-season and won the NC below OSU. I think the defending national champs should start the season as No. 1 and that the ranking should be theirs to lose.
The media loves Ohio State so I wouldn't be surprised if there's talk about putting them in the CFB over undefeated teams at the end of the season.
I think Clemson should be ranked no lower than No. 2 considering ESPN's panel picked against them and yet they won in dominating fashion. This was supposed to be LJ's statement game and he pretty much got shut down.

I wouldn't put USC over Penn State or Oklahoma. They barely squeaked out a win against a Texas team that lost to Maryland at home. My Top 5 would be...
1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Oklahoma
4. Penn State
5. Oklahoma State
In reality, I see USC being ranked higher than Oklahoma State since USC/Sam Darnold are media darlings. I think the powers that be REALLY want them in the CFP.
