I hate to say it but it depends on the location. Every metropolitan area has some open minded areas and some closed minded areas. Around the DC locations Dupont Circle is known for a larger than average gay population.
Hope that helps.

We are very open minded in Philly - especially Mt. Airy and Center City/ Queen Village

Houston has a fairly sizable gay population, a healthy economy and just about anything else you could want. There is a particular area that is known to be particularly gay - the Montrose. But truth be told there are gays all over the city and no one seems to have much of a problem with that fact.

Yeah, I agree. I've found Allentown to be sort of conservative...far from a homosexual haven.
Philly can be a decent place. I'd say most any college town would be accepting (read: liberal).

Although I don't condone homosexuality, I will reiterate what someone else suggested: Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. is like the gay Mecca of the eastern seaboard. It's a nice area, too.

West Hollywood, California is as much a mecca as San Francisco. Another beautiful area, many restored Mission Revival houses.
