Reagan is the name of the airport.

"National" is not a name - You can find a "national" airport anywhere, same with an "international" airport. "National" does not tell you where the airport is. But there is only one "Reagan" airport.

And the air traffic controllers business? That took balls, plain and simple. The controllers illegally violated their contracts. Have you also forgotten that, at the time, the court of public opinion ruled in favor of the government?

"National" is an official part of its name. Try again.

And yet Washingtonians understand what is meant by "the Mall" despite there being far more malls than airports, national or international.

There are perfectly good reasons to call DCA Reagan, or Reagan National, but I don't think National Airport sounding ambiguous is one of them.

My 2 cents: I say Reagan National. Of course, I just asked my wife and she said "Washington National".

Yeah, and that same link clarifies that it's in DC. Because it's not the only national airport in the country, or in the world.
