GOD, MOST OF YOU ON THIS THREAD ARE IDIOTS!

More so than RED vs BLUE, it's RURAL VS URBAN. That's what it's about.

Red states are NOT going to secede! Simple as that. And this whole red vs blue state debate is STUPID!

Once again, RURAL vs URBAN:

Sorry but we give them a $100 bill and supply free bus service to either CA or NY. They can go west or east.

Then why isn't Georgia, with its huge urban center of Atlanta, a blue state? Why isn't Texas, with some of the biggest cities in America, a red state? And most of all..

HOW THE HELL IS VERMONT THE BLUEST STATE THERE IS?! How is Vermont "urban" in any sense of the word? Or Iowa, Maine etc.

Even the rural areas of Washington state are more liberal than the suburbs in South Carolina.

That's only because of the "black belt" with so many black people living in the south. There votes are basically segregated from the white, conservative majority.

As for the "rural vs urban" fallacy...VERMONT?! Maine?! Iowa?! are they "urban centers"?

Maybe the OP should move to one of the European countries that embraces socialism.
Vermont has voted for Bernie Sanders, the only openly socialist Senator, twice. Some states understand that Denmark is better off then just about every other country.

If you want smaller government, religion shoved down your throat and no taxes, by all means, move to SOMALIA.

And it was TEN TIMES WORSE under laissez faire economics, and has been improving under social democracy.

Again, if laissez faire economics work, why isn't Somalia a heaven on Earth?

Somalia isn't small government. Their government is one of the most if not the most corrupt government in the world. With all that power, how can they be small government?

The reason why poverty has improved is because the mountainside slums have finally received things like power and protection from the police. It is not like all the people who live in those slums are all of a sudden gaining wealth. They are just getting their living standards on par with any semi civilized society.

Brazil is the perfect example of how Government meddling and Crony Capitialism create gigantic wealth gaps.

Latin America Wealth Gap Climbing, Despite Progress Against Poverty: UN

While Latin America has made great strides in reducing poverty in recent years, paradoxically, the continent
has witnessed a sharp widening of the income gap between the rich and the poor.

According to a study by the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements (UN-Habitat), on average, the wealthiest 20 percent of Latin Americans earn 20 times more than the 20 percent at the bottom.

may achieve social indicators similar to those of developed countries by 2016 if the country is able to maintain the same rate of reduction of extreme poverty and income inequality as recorded over the 2003 to 2008 period. By the same token, the country may record an absolute poverty rate of 4%.
Brazil Believes It Can Have Social Indicators of Rich Country in 6 Years

And, I may ad, what the Pinochet inspired Republicans want for America just DOES NOT WORK. The Poverty in Hong Kong, the most laissez faire place on earth, is proof of that.

Social Democracy? That, indeed, does work.
