Direct Certification in the National School Lunch Program: State Implementation Progress, School Year 2012

As a result, the share of SNAP participant children certified for free school meals without application increased to 89 percent in SY 2012-2013, up from 86 percent in SY 2011-2012.

Thank you. This gets to the point I have made repeatedly which is that equating the lunch program with food stamps is false.

In that link it says that "States and LEAs directly certified 12.3 million children at the start of SY 2012-2013,"
http://www.fns.usda.gov/sites/defaul...13_Summary.pdf

In another link it says that "The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program operating in over 100,000 public and non‐profit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provided nutritionally balanced, low‐cost or free lunches to more than 31 million children each school day in 2012.

31million students in the program and far less than 31 million of those students coming from families collecting food stamps.

Yes, it does.

If parents are getting food stamps for the kids who are getting up to 3 free meals a day at school, their food stamp benefits need to be reduced accordingly. Otherwise, taxpayers are paying TWICE for up to 15 meals (or more, some schools have Saturday meal programs and/or send food home with kids on Fridays for the weekend) per child each week.

No, it doesn't. Again the program is for students when they stay after school for extracurricular activities. It's for all students who participate.

This what I am saying. It's not as if people have a choice, it's by force. IMO this is by design - by the government. Create a crippled society that is dependent on government in one way or the other will create equality for all...............well, at least for 95% of the people. Hugo Chavez kept getting "elected" by his base because he kept promising them that government would take care of them. Sound familiar??

Do you pay for your meals twice?
Actually I eat three meals for the price of one. I go to buffets.

They are subsidized only 26 to 28 cents per meal for students who pay full price.

Yes, Remember I provided you with the original link. And it depends it could be as high as .42 cents per meal, but it is still a subsidy. Thank you finally dealing with reality a little bit.

So... students don't eat lunch, and even frequently breakfast, at school? I call BS on that.

Look at the big picture...

No. You didn't read the link. The most is 30 cents, only available to Alaska and Hawaii.

Meanwhile, schools are reimbursed $2.93 by the federal government for every free meal.

I have the solution.

InformedConsent will go to Texas, to this particular school. He will take notes on which children have 'dinner' at school. He will then follow these children home to see where they live. He will gather their names and submit a Freedom of Information request to establish that these kids' parents are receiving food stamps.

After finding out that information (which may take months) he will personally report each and every household that receives food stamps and has a child who gets 'dinner' a couple times a week at school. He will then demand that those households have their food stamps reduced by, say, $15/month.

InformedConsent will be very happy and proud of himself and will go on to live a more productive life, knowing he saved all tax-paying citizens from double-feeding children.

As a side benefit, IC will teach all of these double-dippers the conservative way of life:

All households will have dinner at home between 6:00pm and 6:30pm.!
