Perhaps it's another Debbie. Meantime, phone mailbox still full. She's a retiree so she has lots of time to clear her messages. This is aggravating. I give up. On another note, it's a lesson for older folks to keep the lines of communication open for obvious reasons.
She may not even be aware that she has messages in her phone's mailbox...or doesn't know how to access them for deletion.

Is there someone else in your circle who also knows her that you could contact to get the message through?

RiverBird, you may have spoken with her very recently, but illness can come on very quickly, too. A heart attack, stroke, etc. Even a bad car accident.

And regarding Facebook, I would not rule out using that. If it is truly important that you reach her, go that extra step and look for her there. Doesn't mean you have to be a slave to it, just look for her name and see what comes up. Then forget it.

I say just forget it. She obviously does not want to be involved today with your project. Otherwise she would have provided a way for you to reach her.

Yes I've come to believe that. OTOH, there are people out there who live in a cloud of oblivion. Don't check their messages, don't clear their phones, etc. In this case, not being able to reach this woman means that the others in the group are put on hold in terms of their roles in the event. I just find that irresponsible, but I'm proceeding without her. I wonder what I'll say to her if I do see her again...like, you really screwed things up, girl. That is, if she has no good explanation.

I am not on FB and don't intend to be. For whatever worth it has in contacting people, I don't want to be sucked into yet another online social system. I've learned a lot from this, and will proceed differently in the future.

Unfortunately, none that I know of.

Bought a horned melon today at the store. Was tasty and a little expensive. It had a banana, kiwi, cucumber flavor to it.

I had to google "horned melon". It is possibly the ugliest fruit I've ever seen.

There are a lot of nut cases out there, and the equal opportunity provided by public internet discussion forums gives them a soapbox which they didn't have prior to the computer age. I do not frequent a large number of City-Data forums, but I have encountered very serious nut cases in History, Current Events, Economics, and yes, even a few in Retirement.
I encountered a position which blew my mind after I posted the above. Here is a sentence from the History Forum, in a thread about what we would want to delete from history textbooks:

"None of those come anywhere near the depopulation of an entire continent. If you plan to argue that a few minor actions like the holocaust justify American genocide, your ass is hanging out."

It is totally beyond my comprehension how the Holocaust could be considered a "minor action". This guy seems to be serious, as naturally a number of people took issue with his statement and he defended it consistently. Well I suppose it doesn't prove he really believes that. There is no limit to the absurdity (and worse) which we encounter here.

Ah, government entities!
I applied as a volunteer for the county run animal shelter. Yes, applied....application is the same as they use for any level of position. Think I had to type in N/A about 30 times
Two weeks later, I finally got a reply letting me know HR would contact me for fingerprinting, background check and drug testing! I kid you not.
Now, another 2 weeks later am advised all that is going to be passed by and I get to make an apt for orientation.
You'd have thought this would be easier, wouldn't you?
Especially since it isn't a no-kill shelter and they get a lot fewer volunteers. I just hope I can do it since those animals deserve it just as much.
