Again, MSNBC almost disappointed that there doesn't seem to be anything hugely catastrophic - like 'we came all this from NYC for this?".....why did we bother?

Those water barrels won't do much for your door. The winds are going to push and pull on the panels of the door. Take a look at this: http://www.floridadisaster.org/hrg/d...rage_doors.pdf

Another way is shown. Notice the 2 vertical posts. The posts have a flange on the bottom that bolts the vertical to the floot. The tops are held in place with brackets. U-Bolts hold the door ribs to the vertical.

That door cannot pull in and out.

I got 4x4 post going across the top part. Someone had rigged that part up before i bought the house and now with storm going more to my east i should be fine. Worst case was it going just west of me offshore. I need a new door anyways.

If the media did not bring us a true view of what was happening in areas being affected how would we know the various situations taking place? It's the "you are here" that most people want. As far as fear, a storm of this magnitude should be taken very seriously.

Keep in mind the media puts their journalist in spots where wind and rain can be seen the best as that looks better.

Some broadcasters sound like fear mongers.

The anxiety that many people have is worse due to some broadcasting.

Please stay safe and calm and don't leave now as there is no gas to fill up cars.

Sounds weird....like we won't have a Bay left! Don't worry we will have a Bay to go to!

Yep, Weather Channel keeps sending Jim Cantore to different areas and has him report getting blown around in the winds, rains and waves. Only reason would be sensationalize the reports. If it was for the visuals they could do that from a host of remote cameras.

I'm camping out over around Carrollwood right now. They're showing the winds from Sarasota and St. Pete and there is almost no wind going on out here.
