It doesn't bother me. Maybe when I was a lot younger I'd go sulk in the corner and wonder why everyone on this planet doesn't love ME, but at this stage of life I could give a rats ass.
Yes - but what kind of a person purposely tries to insult people like that! It's just baffling to me!

It was tongue-in-cheek...I don't really think I'm past my prime (actually, I know I'm not) but if you do, that's fine with me. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

I don't even know who they are and I hardly ever watch TV (I assume you're talking about commercials). As I said, I don't feel strongly about diamonds at all (I have them and don't wear them), but I do feel strongly about cheap and selfish bastards.

It's not an investment piece, but despite not being "rare" it won't depreciate like your laptop.

you wouldnt get close to what you paid for the ring in almost any case

the laptop serves a function and he will get a lot of use out of it

following your logic you should spend your food money on a ring because in ten years the food will be gone (or beyond spoiled if you chose not to eat it) and the ring would still be worth something

people on here acting like men who don't want to get ripped off on a ring are saying"ill spend 500 dollars on this ring but Ill never spend another nickel on you again." which isn't the case

not wanting to get completely ripped off doesn't mean you dont love somebody

That’s what is all about. Men get past their prime too but we just don’t lose sleep and appetite over it as women do since history. It’s just a number like you said and many women have a hard time accepting it.

Yup. They have sold that idea to women and just look at women now putting a limit on how cheap their ring can be to accept to marry a man, how big it should be, how much her man should spend, etc. They have come up recently with the idea of promise rings. Now they are targeting teenage girls too with this whole thing about promise rings and having teenage boys working and saving money to buy her a ring. I wouldn’t be surprised if Debeers found a way to sell ice in Alaska.

Blue Nile provided a fair deal compared to Mayors with the same rating. I was happy. Able to do the honeymoon in DR with the monies saved.

Wifey was happy. That is all that matters.

you spent you didn't invest

Not true.

We just had my ring appraised recently and it appraised for more than we purchased it for. Not by much, a few hundred bucks, but it didn't lose any value. It was purchased 18yrs ago. I can safely assume an 18yr old laptop computer won't retain it's value after that long.

Interesting how women can call men cheap for not spending more than a couple of thousand dollars on their ring, yet, women don't even spend a few bucks on a man. Who's cheap?

A few women will think that way and therefor find pointless to have a man's thousands of dollars wrapped around their finger just to show it off to the girlfriends instead of using that money for another car, a house down payment, longer honeymoon, etc.

There are women who feel that if a man doesn’t spend money on their ring then he doesn’t love them. In that case, wouldn’t that mean women don’t love men? A man is deciding to spend his entire life (hopefully) with her and get married. Shouldn’t that be great?

Thats how good they are. They started this nonsense idea many years ago that men have to spend assloads of money on an otherwise worthless rock otherwise they don't really love the women. It's absolutely brilliant on their part.

1)inflation
2)appraisal value means less than nothing
if someone appraises jewlery at x and they arent willing to pay x then they are full of ****

You spent a lot of money and it was worth it to you- that doesnt make it an investment
My tv,laptop etc are not investments they are things I bought just like your rings

Im not sure why you're comparing a rock that has no function and only costs as much as it does because of great marketing and a monopoly with an artificial control of supply with a laptop-it's pretty hilarious actually
