She's very outgoing, and incredibly fake. Combine that with a pretty face, fake boobs and the female family trait (small waist big bottom), and it's a recipe to take money from creepy dudes at will. My mom is a hustler too. That's where my sister learned it. My mom never served coffee though. She just dated wealthy men twice her age like my dad. My mom has never worked a day in her life outside of the home or the bedroom. My aunt says that she thinks my mom was a high dollar call girl when she was in her 20's, but my mom denies it. I've questioned if my sister is in that business before, due to the fact that she has lots of older male "friends," and she lives a lot more lavishly than what an upper middle class income provides. I always see posts on Facebook of her vacationing in some tropical paradise or on a cruise with some guy twice her age.

I think with such business the line between escort and not escort becomes rather blurry. But it does sound like she is in it for the good times and lifestyle... and likely some material and monetary benefits as well. And the way things usually work out, when she gets too old for that she can always find something stable then.

I was blessed to live in Houston, where it's easy to find a job with a good education and solid experience. When I got my Bachelor's, I made $45,000 fresh out of college, and a year later I was raking in $50K. When I hit $50k, I went for my MBA online and that doubled my salary. I'm currently making $100K with no student loan debt (just mortgage and car note, and even my car note will be paid off in 3 years, tops) and I believe my MBA plus knowledge helped me get where I am career-wise.

What are your degrees in, and when did you begin your career?

None of these anecdotes is useful in the slightest without revealing what degree, what place of work, and when that lucrative career began.

Unfortunately, I am also have issues with employment and I feel like it was due to my degree. I have a decent/ok job now..I mean it pays the bills and its not in a call center(thank god), however, I just got this job like two months ago after four months of looking. Meanwhile, my gf can quit her job and have job interviews within a week paying 50k as a recruiter because she has a BBA in HR Management. I have a BA in History and I graduated in 2007. I had no one to advise me, my family is from another country and I was told to go to school and the degree did not matter unless you wanted a specific job(i.e. Engineering, Accounting), so I majored in History and graduated. My own college did not even help me when it came to narrowing it down. They just kept asking me what did I want to do, and at the time I just didn't know.

Well, the recession happened and it royally messed me up job wise because it was hard for me to find something that wasn't in customer service. I ended up going back to school in 2012 and graduated with my Master's in Public Administration which I was hoping would be a little more useful, nope. I have the degree and it has not once helped me get a job in the public sector(I wanted to work in non profits), despite having 6 months volunteering with one non profit doing their social media marketing and 4 months now volunteering with another one doing their HR and Public Relations.

At this point, I am at a loss and I have no idea what to do. As crazy as it may sound, I am actually thinking of going BACK to school for a BS in Corporate Communication. I only have 10 classes and I am hoping to either use that degree to get a job in PR, Marketing, or HR.

When you're dealing in non-technical fields, get out of the mindset that you have to match a degree with the job. You don't have to get a new degree every time your job description changes.

I would recommend not spending that extra money. Use the experience you're gaining now doing the volunteer work to show you can do social media marketing and Public Relations, and use the resume from your current job to show you understand how to operate in companies to apply what you know.

Sounds like you still don't really know what you want to do. First step is figure that out and develop those skills by working your way up rather than heading back to school unless you have a very specific goal.

That's one of the problems with getting the MPA. An MPA is not a first step degree into public service. Public service jobs use the same skills and degrees as other jobs -- finance, management, engineering, etc depending on the type of job. The MPA comes in handy for those who already have experience and want to move up into management within the public sector, not for getting the first job.

Oh, and when you get into the big leagues, there is a whole lot of difference between PR, marketing, and HR. HR, especially, is a whole different field unto itself.

In my high-tech jobs, hiring manager are interested in personality, motivation, and problem solving skills. Most have moved past college diploma screening and in favor of having candidate pass personality tests in order to get hired.

In traditional jobs such as education, finance, legal, and government jobs the diploma is still a requirement for seniority or management jobs but there are openings for non-graduates up to as much as $175k in salary for specialized jobs.

As a full-time IT security consultant I once received an engagement for a University contract role. I figure no big deal I can perform the contract obligations. Then I was asked for my diploma including my GPA. I told the hiring manager, that I have never been asked about GPA as long as I have a diploma and that I've been out of school for over 15 years. Apparently, for universities they are more interested in my education background before my work experience. It gave me some red flags and they were definitely interested in hiring me but I pulled out because I just didn't get a very good vibe from the interview process. As a consultant, they should be looking for the most experienced and skilled person not look for some ideal employee.

And it is in that state of mind that the education industry blindly pushes kids into nothing but a bachelor degree, regardless of whether it's actually a productive degree.
