Well, "from Ukraine", since you asked, here's my opinion (I'm a French guy and my government is 100% on your side): I'm 120% on the side of the Russians, sorry to disappoint you. And yes, I loathe our Socialist government and our warmongering (he badly wants to go to war in Syria on the side of the Djihadists) , skirt chaser president (his lover recently played in an anti Catholic short film/advertisement ).
And did you know that the French official media are 24/24 Russian bashing? do you call that freedom odf speech? see ...you and your pro Maidan friends say there is no freedom of speech in Russia. I don't know, I don't live there , but see, it's exactly the same in your so beloved West!

I think it is a big mistake on the part of Merkel to be so one-sided. Russia has a giant neighbor to the East, who will readily buy Russia's exports. They can do without Europe in the long term.

And there will be important decisions to be taken in the UN security council. Russia will retaliate with a very destructive behavior there, no more support for Western plans. And Germany can forget about its permanent seat in the council.
I agree that sanctions do harm everything to the countries, and not just Russia. All understand it for this reason Europe and America is so careful.
But Europe well understands that to Putin there will be not enough Crimea. If they don't react, they practically give carte blanche to it in capture of other European states.
It is a question of personal safety of each country.... I wrote, what even Nazarbayev (Putin's best friend) instructed to strengthen country borders military and equipment.

One paranoid (I only this way can call now Putin) has too much weapon... also uses it too often: (
Here therefore this question is so difficult... nobody wants to continue cold war, but also the sanction doesn't want to apply...

By the way about resources: today I read that the USA gave part of the resources for sale and started reducing the price so a little. Besides Obama cancelled embargo on oil sale to Iran...
And Russia has to think of it seriously... after all it doesn't have anything except resources which feed her...

I am not sure I understand everything you write...

Anyway, I don't think Putin is interested in taking over other countries, that is just the old Western paranoia, deliberately fueled by hawks in Washington and other Western capitals. He did not even want the Ukraine or Crimea. The referendum was the Ukrainians' idea and they asked if Russia would adopt Crimea, which is not even as easy as it sounds. If I am not mistaken the Russians have to change their laws first.

Which countries should he be interested in and because of what? I don't see any. They have more resources than they can handle and they got the biggest country in the world in terms of size.
Because of the Crimean fleet they will of course not allow anyone to mess with Crimea, and that is understandable.

And let's not forget that the Americans are of course playing their old manipulation game. Putin has a capable secret service, he certainly knows exactly what is going on down there and acts the way he does because he has every reason to. Frankly, I trust Moscow a lot more than I trust Washington, Putin a lot more than Obama.

That's not true. Putin makes a lot of what people expect from him. Now the popularity of Putin's in Russia the maximum in the last three years. But other European countries can not worry, for them Russian people will not tighten our belts and take them to the Russian Federation. The countries to which the Russian people relates with sympathy, it is Ukraine and Belarus. Well, maybe Kazakhstan and Serbia (this is a personal opinion).

But always there are alternative sources: )
If the person wants to understand he them will look for.
Now in the Crimea too disconnected the Ukrainian television (! ! ) and completely replaced with the Russian television.
But inhabitants write letters to the social organizations, they unite at forums, they gather for squares of the city...
It is our mentality.
And Russians have other mentality - they always obeyed the emperor, so there were many years. And they so got used that don't want anything to change even in such extreme case as war...
But I certainly don't speak about all population of Russia.... now I read at our forums as Russians write "Dear Ukrainians, excuse us, we have to it no relation. We support you in everything and we don't approve actions of our parliament. ".
But 1 person, other 99 Russians from 100 can write it only will rejoice to "restoration of the former borders".

They even till 1917 don't know history of the Crimea...
It is the earth of Turkey: )

I in general don't trust none of them really: )
But Obama didn't come yet at us on the tank and with the weapon: )
For this reason now I choose it.

You should learn history. What 1917? The Russians conquered the Crimea in 1783.
