Nobody knows, really. The story about three Scandinavian brothers and their sister who founded Kiev is pure myth. Since Kiev sits on a valuable (from standpoint of a primitive man) piece of real estate it was settled long time before Slavic tribes appeared on the scene.

You probably do not know about the Slavic tribe Rus?About what you say Scandinavia?
And you don't know either. Actually, I paraphrased findings of the known Russian historians who speculated that Rus' was the name for the Scandinavian raiders who controlled local Slavic tribes.
Russian nationalists are insane to the point of simply superimposing 20th century ideas about nation & state on the loose group of the semi-isolated primitive tribes who lived 1000 years ago in forests and swamps. This digging in the past would be just silly if Russian state wouldn't seek legitimization for its imperial overreach in those ancient swamps.
Dear Russians, give everything that you took away: )
Where did you get this funny card?Maybe you should give up his Indian country ?You know where my region map, then you know that it is the birthplace of Itelmens Kamchatka?

I wonder how exactly a similar map of the U.S. would look like.
There is a big difference, friend: )
The USA already is the federal republic: )
And Russia wishes to remain the monolithic state, it doesn't want power decentralization: )

How about the fact that 29 states want to secede from the US? Or you did not know?

Isn't Russia also already a federation, though?
