And you don't know either. Actually, I paraphrased findings of the known Russian historians who speculated that Rus' was the name for the Scandinavian raiders who controlled local Slavic tribes.

Russian nationalists are insane to the point of simply superimposing 20th century ideas about nation & state on the loose group of the semi-isolated primitive tribes who lived 1000 years ago in forests and swamps. This digging in the past would be just silly if Russian state wouldn't seek legitimization for its imperial overreach in those ancient swamps.
