Well, this is certainly not unique to Ukraine, what was the name of that Russian politician infamous for physically attacking his opponents in Duma ? "Z" something.

I can guarantee you, thought, something like this would not happen in N. Korea. The lack of decorum suggests the lack of repression.

You hit the target. Russian and Ukrainians do not have differences, except dialect.

The annexation of Crimea was illegal, there's absolutely no way around this.

My feeling however is, since Russia for now can't afford to continue the confrontation with the West, and Putin in all likelihood can't give the peninsula back to Ukraine without seriously undermining his position inside Russia, he will make some major behind the scenes concessions elsewhere and normalize relations with West without giving Crimea back. Ukraine will be paid off one way or another, and Crimea will remain in legal limbo for decades.

The whole Syrian expedition seems to be designed to both raise his stakes / popularity on the international arena, and at the same time build bridges with West. There's talk of rapprochement on both sides now.

Economically Russia is screwed, the oil will only continue to slide and will remain low for at least 2016 and perhaps 2017, by all estimates. They tried to build closer ties with China and signed an oil contract with them about a year ago, that at the time was exceptionally generous to the Chinese. China has however quietly reneged on that deal, now that oil is so cheap everywhere. It's obvious that China is only interested in one night stands with Russia, not a long term partnership. The Russians had just sold the Chinese their most advanced fighter plane, which the Chinese will most surely copy and start selling worldwide under their own brand. Russia refused to sell these planes for a long time, now it's strapped for cash and probably also needs political favors from China.

So, I think if Ukraine wants to join EU, Russia will give up trying to stop it, at the present time. But it's likely that in the end, EU may not want Ukraine. Ukraine is the loser here either way.

Just to add, if Hillary becomes the President, it's going to get interesting. She seems to be rather anti-Putin.

And if Trump becomes pres, it's going to be fun! He seems to be pro-Putin, and wants to get out of Syria and let Russia take it over, and its oil+Iran+Iraq. Thus, Russia wont need oil nor dough.

Also, Trump could care less about Ukraine or the Baltics or Poland or the Eskimos, the Aborigines, the Apunians, the Greys or Reptilians, or who won Miss Universe; his main concern is security of the U.S.

I see the topic is almost exhausted. Nobody around the world can predict future of my country because the main players like governments of USA and Russia don't understand what crimes they have committed in such unfortunate country as Ukraine.
By the way, don't believe, if someone told you about ceasefire. Local hospital full of wounded patients that came last days.

A Ukrainian soldier was asked, “Why are you fighting in Donbass?” And he says, “Because there are Russians there.” The soldier says, “And why are you not fighting in the Crimea?” And he says, “Because there are Russians there.”

And let us remember the beginning. Yanukovych signed the agreement about leaving from government and foreign ministers of France and Germany signed this agreement. They were guarantors of implementation of this agreement. But Nuland said "f*ck the EU"...
Why are you staged a coup? Criminals are people who are in power in Ukraine at the moment.

You in Russia have one medicine for all cases - vodka, and in Ukraine to each illness the different approach - surgery in one case but enough antibiotics in other.

Something is changing there;

Clostermann, Bousquet Lead French Delegation in Donetsk: Kiev Guilty of

( And in Russian version they say that this group of French advocates ( apparently connected to Marine Le Pen) are ready to bring the case of Donbass inhabitants to a European court, as in violation of Human Rights.
