Not very impressive to see either ME, HI or AK plates here, since we're nearly equidistant from the furthest flung states. Obviously much more impressive for someone in FL to see AK (or vice versa), or someone in ME to see HI (or vice versa).
I also saw a caravan of classic (50's/60's Volvos) with Swedish license plates driving down PCH once, driven by some nice older Swedish folks; there was a website on the back of a few of the cars and when I visited it, they had a chronicle of their trip from Karlstadt through the EU, over and across the US, and then on to Japan, through China, into Russia, and back to Sweden! Which sounds awesome, the sort of thing I'd love to do someday...
When in Boston, I saw Hawaii and Alaska plates at Hanscom airbase a few times.
I have seen both Florida and Hawaii plates in Washington state.
