I have shot my own handloads up to 40 years old. Stored in a cool dry place, ammo will outlast the guy who bought it or loaded it. And like land, you are very unlikely to regret the purchase.
That is why, when I said "over 30 years," I put the "over" in bold.
We really don't know how long it will last, since we still have people shooting stuff that was made before 1993, and we don't really have statistics of detonations, slam-fires, misfires or hang fires on old ammo. (Maybe a few stories, but nothing more.) I think 30 years is a reasonable "good and reliable date" to go by. (Kinda like the freshness date on a box of cereal, you know it will last longer, but don't know how much longer.)
well, my Y2K stash of .22LR still performs within specifications.
what hurts is seeing the 1999 "sticker price".
AMEN to that!! LOL up to last year I still had primers from 1999in stash. My son found them. Primers are the toughy for us right now getting 45 ACP and Colt back in the black. Projectiles had been a bit scarce. We have a big projectile plant just up the highway from us. They used to sponsor my son in the youth division back when he was a "youth.'
They;ve had trouble keeping certain projectiles in stock. .45 9mm and 223. Big shocker there. 7.62 is probably the same but we don't load for any 30s so I haven't asked.
Still no shortage here in N AZ. And prices have come back down to 'reasonable' or what I consider to be so. 1000 rds of 9mm for $140 is not much more than pre-shortage....supply is plentiful.
I don't know about the 'rarer' rounds as I have narrowed my shooters down to a few common rounds. But shelves seem to be full in all categories......

Hmm I might have to look and see if I can maybe find an outfit there that'll ship to me. As long as shipping isn't robbery and rape. It's been that way on a lot of the common sites i've gone to. They have ammo at a good price but shipping is a killer. Anyway thanks for the heads up. I do know a fellow shooter here who is a long haul driver that pulls down that way. Might do to see what can be done.

Note: I'm in N AZ up north of Prescott. Plenty of cheap ammo here and lots of ranges and shooters. A shooters paradise. May not be the same in Phoenix....

That price is a bit "unheard of."
(If I were buying, anything under $400 would be my price point. Anything less than that, I can afford to get picky about brands and loads.)
My local sporting goods store has been sold out of .243 Winchester 100 Grain for at least the past 3 to 4 years. This is the worst .243 ammo shortage I have ever seen.Still cant find .243 locally.

As long as no one sets off another round of hording frenzy with another ammo conspiracy it should be fine.
