The whole argument from the church is rediculous. They should not be able to pick and choose what they will cover and what they won't when it comes to somebody's health. Not all people who work at Catholic institutions are religious, and the choice of wether or not to use cantraceptive falls with the individual - this is the real freedom here.

On a personal level, I would have liked Obama to say "tough" to the religious and put up a fight to force them to provide this coverage (note: they are only being asked to provide cover, not the actual contraceptive itself), but I guess this is a good compromise that happens within democracy that still allows contraceptive to be gained but also allowing the institution to refrain from providing it.

The religious arguments in this country seem to be completely devoid of any logic or reason. Don't they get that contraceptives actually reduce abortion or unwanted pregnancy? Dealing with an individual's or an institution's 'beliefs' when trying to reconcile with public policy is almost impossible because they are mostly empty of logic, reason or compromise. It is this intellectually bankrupt logic that allows the right wing noise machine to turn any sensible argument into political sporting nonsense.

About time that the Catholic Church came into the 21st Century. Women have no rights in the Catholic Church and to be honest neither do the Priests. Let's get rid of the silliness now and openly allow Catholic women to take birth control instead of having 95% of Catholic women inventing painful periods and illnesses so that they can be given the pill without feeling guilty.
The President is trying to give women the means to stop unwanted pregnancy and the church is living in the past. Whatever the President does he is wrong in some eyes but Women will remember how he is thinking of their welfare when next November comes around.... No matter what they say to their church, husband or pollsters.......... they will vote for Obama as the testosterone fuelled right is NOT a friend to Women.
So why the waivers for unions then? Do they hate women?

If it's that important, women AND men would be willing to pay of it themselves, don't you think?

Not quite. Obama, as usual, didn't see how much people would disagree with this until he'd already done it. Then, it's backpedal as usual.

Yea, we know. The Thin-Skinned One can't admit to being wrong, so he can't call it "caving".

Under a system that values freedom of religion, you don't have to approve for them to be allowed their freedom to believe as they wish. Religions have different beliefs, and they would all find some part of other religions they don't agree with, but they are all allowed the freedom to believe as the want.

The fact that some employees may not be religious does not force the church to give up their religion. The people that were being asked/told to do something are religious. The employees freely chose to work there and have never had contraceptives provided for them by the church. They were not being told they couldn't use contraceptives, the church simply didn't want to be in the position of having to provide it.

But the main thing he did was add another chapter to his book, "I Understand NOTHING About Economics or Business."

The Grand Compromise supposes that insurance companies will simply go to the magical money tree and harvest an extra bushel so they can provide free goods and services to insured employees. It is magic, I tell ya. Employers shouldn't have to pay, women shouldn't have to pay...so just make it free to everybody. Sheer genius.

How is it a war on human rights to say "I don't want to buy you something?" There are community clinics all over the place where people can go get free contraceptives, or they can spend a couple of dollars at the Circle K. It's not like the Catholic Church is the only possible contraceptive outlet.

Really? If you aren't looking at the potential competition for Obama and laughing already, I don't know what would make you do so...

Honestly I didn't see where Unions were given a "waiver" on this. Is there a link to what you're talking about?
