The $578 million tax break deal is for Disney relocating 2000 workers to Florida. These are separate issues and it has nothing to do with Reedy Creek. Since your article is behind a pay wall I was unable to read the entire thing but based on the initial paragraph that they were gracious enough to allow me to read it appears to be completely separate. I’m not sure why we need yet another thread on Disney/Florida. The obsession is real.

Did the article mention that now, unlike before, Orange County can tax Disney? If not, Bloomberg is acting as propaganda and pushing a political agenda against reality.

The only way this happens is if deep blue Orange County wants a mega multinational business to get special rules and unique tax breaks.

Orange County already taxes Disney. Why did you think otherwise?

Between 2015 and 2020, Disney paid $296.2million in property taxes to Orange County. Disney sued the Orange County Property Appraiser over improper valuation and got a $7.8 million refund.

the OP has been on the original thread bellowing repeatedly that desantis has already increased taxes on Florida citizens, despite the fact this legislation doesn't even take effect until next year.

From the link:

Fine acknowledges that the local entities where Reedy Creek lies will pick up the Reedy Creek's debt once the district is dissolved, but says those local governments can create Municipal Service Taxing Units (MSTU) that would also "pick up the revenue that would be going to pay for the debt." He insists that "There's no impact to taxpayers."
Sounds like Orange County can tax Disney to pay the debt. Let's include this in the discussion unlike the original post.

Since when did the left make such a big stink of stopping special status for huge corporations? When they decided they didn’t like parents telling them to leave their kids alone.

The left has spoken out many times about fossil fuel subsidies. And Big Sugar getting huge subsidies. And farmers getting massive subsidies. The list goes on and on.

Talking heads won't let the people in on the secret that this is a deal that probably benefits all parties.

Surrounding counties don't have to deal with Disney-related infrastructure and services. They may stand to collect a little more tax money, but at a huge cost in services and infrastructure projects. The startup cost and logistics of taking on so much territory would probably cripple them.

RCID and by extension Disney can reinvest in its own infrastructure, and is empowered to maintain and develop at a pace commensurate with its customer service goals, without the typical bureaucratic red tape. It doesn't mean they're allowed to cut corners or ignore standing regulation, but they can process these issues with the efficiency that the operation demands.
