So its been about a month since we started talking about training Ukrainian pilots on the F-15 and F-16. Anyone else looking forward to seeing how Russia deals with it? Cause I am guessing its not going to be very well. Especially as they will bring in a large variety of NATO weapons that Ukraine has not had access to.
Already not. Russians are transferring a bunch of troops out of the Donbas because they are afraid of defeat in the South.
Totally laughable. Donbas is being secured by Russia and not as many troops are needed there. So they transferred some troops to where they are going to be needed. Nothing unusual.
Defeat for Russia in the South? No way. The Ukrainian offensive never took place and won't take place. The Ukrainians don't have the manpower to do it. As a result, Russia will not be defeated in the South. Actually, Russian advances toward Odessa will be likely soon. The Ukrainians have lost too many personnel and materiel to be a serious threat anymore to the Russians. And as Donbas is completed, the tempo of Russia's advances will accelerate. No, Ukraine had their chance of ejecting the Russians out of their country, but are now too weak to do so.

Russia advancing on Odessa.....good luck with that

Russia's offensive in Donbas is winding down and other offensives will be starting soon given that the Ukrainian forces have been seriously weakened. Remember, there is no Ukrainian "million man army". That was a propaganda stunt created by Zelensky and Company to try to stem flagging morale. Same for "Ukrainian counteroffensives". Also propaganda. The Ukrainians are too weak to start any counteroffensives, and will simply be pushed back to further remote areas of their country. Now that the Russians have breached the Donbas fortified areas, their advance will accelerate. Certainly, Odessa will be targeted and taken. There is simply not enough Ukrainian troops left to impede this.
The problem for ISW in making assessments on Russian prioritization is that at this point in the war the Russian forces have been so degraded and now have so little concentrated combat power that it is hard to tell when they are trying to do something important like conduct an offensive versus trying and failing to pin down Ukraine forces across 6 axis.
They would not have tried to attack from many different directions in depth because of their paltry 1:2 odds attacking forces. An attack from different directions would have forced them to spread their small forces too thin and opened them up to attacks from superior Ukrainian forces. And supply and logistics would be much more challenging as well. So, no, the Russians could not have easily encircled those fortifications unless they quadrupled or more their existing attacking forces. Their probing attacks from those other directions were just distractions to keep as many Ukrainian forces as possible away from Donbas where the main action was taking place.
Russia / Putin simply miscalculated. They took heavy losses in Kyiv which included elite airborne units...that is not a feint
"the agents and their handlers believed Ukraine was weak, which was 'a total misconception.' People the Kremlin counted on as its proxies in Ukraine overstated their influence in the years leading up to the invasion, said four of the sources"
it's like a elephant fighting a mouse...all the elephant has to do is step on the mouse, except the mouse is whole lot smarter than the elephant and all it has to do is duck and dodge the elephant's foot while it inflicts serious damage to the elephant wearing it down and tiring it out..eventually the elephant will fall and the mouse will reign supreme..lol..
